LamarCheeks Posted August 16 Posted August 16 Tommy John passed. Underwent a pioneering surgery that has since helped thousands of athletes -- across myriad sports -- to continue their careers. He was a pretty damn good pitcher, too. Won 288 games and finished with a 3.34 career ERA. Also went 6-3 with a 2.65 ERA in the postseason. And ... he was a Hoosier. (Not an IU Hoosier, but is from the state -- grew up in Terre Haute). RIP jepwatso, Stuhoo, jermhoosierfan and 1 other 3 1 Quote

LamarCheeks Posted Saturday at 07:08 PM Posted Saturday at 07:08 PM Justin Verlander's daughter goes to the mound to take him out of his final MLB game. He's from Virginia and pitched at Old Dominion -- about 15 minutes from where I live. Very sweet way to end a first-ballot Hall of Fame career. Class of '66 Old Fart and LIHoosier 2 Quote

LamarCheeks Posted Sunday at 11:35 PM Posted Sunday at 11:35 PM And away we go ... Houston finishes 81-81, so MLB avoids sending a team with a losing record over a 162-game season to the postseason for the first time. One guy's random picks AL wildcard White Sox over Astros Yankees over Red Sox ALDS White Sox over Guardians Yankees over Rays ALCS Yankees over White Sox NL wildcard Phillies over Braves Padres over Cubs (as a Northsiders fan of 50-plus years, that pains me to say) NLDS Dodgers over Phillies Brewers over Padres NLCS Dodgers over Brewers World Series Dodgers over Yankees Goin' with the champs until someone knocks them off! I don't watch enough of the AL to have an opinion, but your NL picks seem about right. I wouldn't mind seeing Cleveland end their drought. Quote

LamarCheeks Posted 11 hours ago Posted 11 hours ago Cubs hit .129 against San Diego, so everybody sucked. But PCA and Alex Bregman -- two of the NL's best hitters in the second half of the season -- went a combined 0 for 15 with 8 Ks. Quote

The Sox got pre-stroke/slurring Harry Caray for 11 seasons with a Jimmy Piersall bonus and it was epic. All of the comedy and electricity, and before the 12 beers a day years sent his health down the crapper. The Cards got the ultimate Harry, the Sox got 'really good + Piersall' Harry, and the Cubs got happy but deteriorating Harry IMO. Quote
