Vonleh Leaning Towards NBA Draft

Recommended Posts

I don't think it will change anything. I think Crean will decide his own fate next season. Top 4 Big Ten finish, 20+ wins and Sweet 16 need to be reached IMO

For him to get any faith back from me he has to compete for the B1G and make the Elite 8 minimum.  Winning the BTT may be substituted for a slightly lower finish in the regular season standing, and that does not mean a lower tier finish again.

Yup agree with you there. In my opinion he needs to perform to get his job back instead of perform to keep his job. I almost feel like he's done in 2 years tops unless he does something that would make him stay Indiana's coach.

Yeah, right now in my book he's a second rate coach with one fluke Final Four run but a great salesman that can make people focus on that one year and overlook the other 90+% of his career.  It's time to put up or shut up, no excuses and no passing blame.

I so think he was billed as a rebuilder. He did being Marquette "back" from some horrible seasons to become respectable. He did that at IU now as well, but this is the part where he should jump off to another project and let someone else take over

And no matter what happens to crean even though we joke about him at times he should should be loved and respected for what he has done for the program. Even though I don't think he can take us any farther I don't think anyone else could have done the job he did from scratch

If this is true I wish Vonleh well and don't blame him for taking the money and he seemed to be underutilized. Maybe he should have played the four with Fischer or Hanner at the five? Disappointed with CTC the last few years. I'm not sure he's the coach that can get IU in a position to go deep in the BTT. reach a Final Four or compete for a National Championship.

As expected. So prolongs our woes. It is dismal at best right now. I love my school but Crean needs to prove to me he loves it too or else next season will be a disaster.

I really have no ill feelings towards N.V. and certainly can't blame him, although I think he'll spend a lot of time in the D-league as was said in the article. If there is no truth to a coaching change and we see a few defections, the next few years will be ROUGH! Who will want to come to play for a coach who loses the desire of his team members to play? Although, I like many believe that last years team had more potential than what they achieved, I had high hopes for the program, now I am hoping that all we lose is N.V. to the draft, and maybe Jeremy Hallowell.( not that I want to see him go, just never got the feeling he was liking his position on the BENCH).

Good luck to Noah if he decides to go. As for other transfers, I think its very possible, but how about we wait a bit and see before we have the whole damn team transferring. If one or two do leave its not the end of the world. Losing Vonleh and Fischer are probably the biggest losses we will see. I mean, if a wing or two transfers, CTC never has a shortage of those. Now if Yogi were to leave.....

NV isn't ready, and anybody that feeds to him that he is, is doing a major disservice to his real potential as a pro...the kid is barely 18 and gets frustrated with an Illinois triple team or a Northwestern zone. Can you imagine how he is going to exposed at the next level. Sad. Sad for him more than anything else.

In fairness I think he's physically ready.  He needs to learn how to use his body in the post yes, but perhaps he realizes that the D league would get him better instruction.

He is going to get paid millions of dollars to develop in the NBA. I'll take the chance over him developing in the NBA every day of the week over Crean developing him. Given that Crean has never developed a big man I don't get why people act like Vonleh would be any different.

I bet he knows he's not ready. He wouldn't even start for the 76ers.

That said, it'll take years to develop regardless of where he is, so he might as well get paid doing it. Plus even if he doesn't develop to his full potential, he has the size and rebounding skills to stay on a bench for a long time.

The NCAA has rules on how much coaches can contact players and practice during the season, out of season etc etc. In the Pros, Vonleh will have world class training facilities, can practice 24 hours a day WITH supervision and help AND will be getting paid MILLIONS of dollars to do it.

How hard is it to understand this concept??? You can't view these situations with your Crimson shades on. It makes ZERO sense for him to come back.

I also think some of these comments are coming from spite of the fact he really is leaving.

I think he was really coming into his own like Stan at the same time Stan was.  I think he would have been that 6 point per game player this year and got 20-25 next year.  Some of our players are athletes.  That kid was a ballplayer.  Pretty sure he was over 235 which for a Freshman would be pretty good.

20-25 ppg next year are you serious? When's the last player at IU to even come close to those numbers? Eric Gordon was a lottery player. Crean does have another lottery post player and he only averages 11 ppg and only 5-6 shots. Fisher would have been lucky to average in double figures if he would have stayed next year. His loss definately hurts but in no way is he even close to Noah or Zeller.
