(2016) C Thon Maker

Recommended Posts

I have to disagree with ya, biteoftheapple.
I have been following Thon for a number of years now and i've said it before, he/Matur/family value education. From his statements from articles a while back (sorry, i can't remember where to find them, maybe in the posts earlier in this forum) his goals are different from the majority of the players these days. A college education is held in high esteem for him and his family (and culture). The pundits always put him in the same bracket as striving for the NBA above everything else ~ yet, he has never....never said anything to support that. I believe wherever he plays, his education completion will be his priority regardless of the guardian's wishes.
In your defense, the articles were a few years ago and things change (and i haven't been following as close as i used to). ok, i'll shut up now. Come on @thon14 ~ don the candystripes!

Everyone deserves to voice their opinion, here especially. I am in the camp that Mr. Smith is looking out for his #1.

Except EVERY article out there makes it known that he wants to play college for one year and then go to the NBA. Education might be important to him, but even when they talked about him reclassifying, it was so he could get to the NBA faster. Nothing bad about that if thats his dream. Interesting to read this quote from an interview with Thon;

"I don’t really watch the NCAA. I’m an NBA guy because that is where I’m going."

So say Thon comes. And Bryant stays. Do we use a line up of Bryant at the 5, DD at the 4, and let Thon do his thing as a 3? Isn't that what he wants to do anyways? I wouldn't want to see this as a line up we predominately use, just a change of pace/ mismatch line up.

I don't see Thon playing most of his time at the 3 in college.  He'll be a stretch 4 or 5 that plays out on the perimeter.  That would be a crazy tall and long team.

That's why I would like to see it just as a change of pace. Like how we can go really small with the current team in stretches and be faster than everyone with 5 shooters on the court. This lineup would just be bigger than everyone and whoever gets the smallest man plays some mouse in the house and still enough shooters on the court to kick it out if a double team comes.

Thon isnt playing the 3 unless in short spurts if they want to go big. IMO Thon at IU is ideal at the 4 with his skill set.

DD is flexible talent that will see time at both the 5 and the 4. He's a good talent, actually a very good talent but he's not playing over Thomas Bryant at the 5 and he wouldn't play over Thon Maker or Colin Hartman at the 4.

This isn't a bad thing though. Thomas Bryant is great but I believe that sometimes less is more and with a worthy backup like DD the less playing time to being even more productive. Not only do i think this helps Bryant's numbers it will also prevent a fall off at the 5 when Bryant is out.

A Thon Maker / Colin Hartman 1-2 punch at the 4 with the added depth of Juwan Morgan would give IU a frontcourt that could be worthy of a NC. Thon's talent and athleticism with Hartman's experience, toughness and shooting could be something special.

I have to say Colin comes off the bench for DeRon, I like Colin a lot but he's a great edge off the bench, or maybe at a big 3 spot, he doesn't have the size/defense to cover the 4:

Nice first post!

I may have read a similar post that touched on this idea last week in another forum.  The post did not mention anything about Thon; however, CTC creates additional options and opportunities if he has Davis backing up Bryant with a minimal amount of time of them playing together.  I like your ideas on the player combinations.  Lets hope that Thon sees the development in the players of this team and desires to take advantage of the opportunity here.

You can do both. Go into the NBA early and get your degree.

OG's wing span the same as Thons!!
Evan Daniels Wouldn't say IU would be a great place for Thon to learn but along side TB, OG, Colin etc could really help him. Still think it's wild Daniels had his slobber fest over OG LAST SPRING. What did he call him? The most interesting player nationwide ? Something like that.

"The most intriguing prospect in his class." Ceiling was through the roof but hadn't seemed to know what he was capable of.
