(2016) C Thon Maker

Recommended Posts

We won't get any 5 stars with a fan base that is ready for a coaching change. Just like the recruiting at the end of last season, coaches used our uncertainty against us. I always hated post like this one because the negativity hurts recruiting, but I can't take watching us regress year after year.

That's different though. He was an Indiana kid who had a chance to come resurrect a great program from some terrible times we had endured. There was still a probability we would be back to greatness again. But now? Now we are a program with an obvious weak coach, an entire fan base who clearly doesn't support him, but an AD who does. We're possibly going on 2 straight years where we will miss the tourney when we easily had the talent on both rosters. Maker will only be in college 1 year (if he even decides to go that route, which I'm not convinced he will), why would he want to come to a train wreck like this is shaping up to be? I wish I wasn't saying this, but it seems to be reality.

Let me clear this up for you. IU is not attractive for bigs with the way they run their offense. Even in their recent best of times. Capiche?

For Thon's style, our offense wouldn't be too unattractive. He gets to run the floor and with his skill set, I feel he would get the keys to the offense, especially if Yogi is gone. I don't know how realistic our chances are, but I don't think style is the reason we don't get Thon.

How many times have you heard social media say feed the post? IU had Vonleh and wanted to chuck up 200 3s a game and miss 199 of them. This game plan failed awhile ago.

Luckily Thon isn't strictly a post player. He's 7 feet and about 200 pounds so I wouldn't expect him to bang down low. Just because he's tall doesn't mean he has to sit on the block all night. Pick and roll/pop all day.

Tom Crean and Fred Glass are doing everything in their power to create positive publicity amidst the dense fog of negativity surrounding this late season collapse. I applaud them for it, but it may backfire. They must be trying to mitigate any potential boycott or booing today at the game. Again, if their intention is for Crean to stay, they are doing the right things.
