What makes you think he's a Florida lean? Everything I've seem has been in favor of IU.

Just the tea leaves talking. Timing of other visits. I know our staff said MH's verbal has nothing to do with DR...but to me the timing is a bit coincidental. Hope I'm wrong.

Also, with being able to shoot, if he plays the 3 at times he will have a huge size advantage regularly. On top of that, I'm sure he's got crazy length, just considering he is 6'8. I'm not worried at all. I love the pickup. He's a 3* now, but he's relatively unheard of. I think his reputation will increase throughout the season, possibly get up to a 4*

Pretty sure he missed most of this past AAU season with an injury. Therefore he didn't get ye exposure he normally would have and ranking probably suffered due to that. Rankings shmankings. Lace 'em up, work hard, & you'll succeed with Indiana Basketball.

Good article here explaining everything. Spent time w/ the German national team......had very little AAU experience. That limits his exposure quite a bit.

Excellent article in the Louisville courier journal about the Max commitment.

Florida offered him for 2015 and UCONN offered for 14.

Also good second hand comments from Goodluck regarding CTC and the program.

Anyone criticizing should really sit back and see how the fall Bball season goes. I am fine with a 3 star specialist and he seems to be a kid that can really develop. Would love to add a JBj or JL or DRob if possible.

Thanks for the link. The article was informative. I definetly have a better understanding about this recruitment and appreciation of him as a player. I think this one was flying under the radar and Coach got a steal. Welcome Max.

I like the pick up. Hoetzel could turn out to be a good player. Runs and see's the floor well. Very good shooter with a smooth release. Just hoping we can still land Robinson.

Agreed. I still want Robinson bad. Glad Crean and staff talked to Robinson about Hoetzel already. Only 2 days until we'll know for sure

I haven't been sold on every recruit we have had.  Quite the opposite actually, but I am all in on this kid.  You can't teach that size with that form/footwork he has.  He is a matchup nightmare.  I don't care how many stars he has.  You have a heads up PG who can find anyone on the court.  You have athletes going to the rim.  You will have defenders not knowing who to cover.  That is why a shooter is so important.  Just watching the videos out there on him, he already has a form as good if not better than CWat as a Soph.  IMO.  That is the sweetest form coming into the program since Roth.  Jordy's motion is so hard to teach or become good at.  He did it.  But, from pure footwork, form, and quick release, this kid has it.  Whether that translates to IU, we will find out next year.  I am happy at the potential for sure.  I haven't hoped a recruit has come in and performed at IU in a long time like I am for this kid.  In a year where nobody can make up their mind, he is all for IU and some don't like him due to what they don't know about him from lack of stars.

I haven't been up on recruiting like I want, but I like your post.  I haven't seen the recruit videos yet, but I will.  In this year of recruiting, you want someone who can help your program and WANTS to come here!  Not make a million verbals and then back out.  Welcome to the program Max, can't wait to see you in action!

His videos are great, because it isn't him dunking every play.  Its him shooting as a spot up shooter, turnaround in the post (while using his footwork to get in position, shots on the break, shots in traffic.  All in all, it was one of the more realistic highlight videos you will see.  You can see when he had someone trying to cover him who was shorter than him he tried backing him down.  Realistic skills oozed on his video.  He may not become anybody, but the potential is fantastic for a trailing, spot up, or back down shooter.  IMO

If robinson really goes elsewhere because of this kid than that says to me this kid is gonna be good. If he wasn't than robinson would have no problem with the recruitment of max

NPS this weekend.

Eric Bossi ‏@ebosshoops 5m
IU fans, here is your Hoetzel update. He has a bagel at the half. Some wide open looks have gone begging.

Hoetzel 0-5 FG with five rebounds at half. Has had clean looks, they've just not dropped. Pretty good passer.

Finally found something here since the NPS a few weeks or so ago.

Jordan Littman ‏@JordanLittman 3m
Indiana signee Max Hoetzel had seven points in a 54-44 Wilbraham and Monson win over Hun School tonight, per @KevMaloney33. #iubb

What if he only played 3 minutes Charlie? No need for those comments when you didn't see the game!

I guarantee he didn't play only 3 minutes... It scares me that a player that is coming here next year can only manage to score 7 points in a game.
