(2016) SG Eron Gordon to Seton Hall

Recommended Posts

If he picks LSU you think part of the motivation would be to be somewhat close to his brother?

Yup.  Part of the reason Evan went to ASU originally was to be close to Eric when he was in LA.  Then when Eric was up for free agency he signed on offer sheet with the Suns so that he could be close to Evan who was still with ASU.  When the Pelicans matched the offer sheet Eric expressed his disappointment in not being close to his brother.

If Eron goes to LSU, which it looks like he will, a major reason is because of Eric being a Pelican.

Regarding Eron Gordon, the Wolf Pack has only signed two top-100 recruits ever (PF Luke Babbitt and PG Marqueze Coleman).

Wut in the wut. Eric Gordon is going to be part of the first pro basketball team in Las Vegas then, I guess.

I'm having a hard time getting excited about Eron Gordon, but I would enjoy the fact that the Gordon's will have been an IU family of basketball players. Another kid who would understand the tradition and what it means to play for Indiana.

In June he told the Hoosier Scoop that IU had picked up the pace in his recruitment again. Has he had an official visit anywhere out of state? If not, one would think IU or Butler.

I highly doubt it. NBA is too fluid and Eric could be out of NO in a heartbeat.

An instate, 4 star recruit with a strong family pipeline. Not sure why anyone wouldn't like that. Crean needs all the help he can get these days.

If that recruit takes the place of a recruit that people believe has a higher ceiling, then it's pretty easy to understand what's not to like.

You've probably noticed, but Crean hasn't exactly been tearing it up on the recruiting trail lately. I'd much rather get this kid now than pin our hopes on getting someone later. Plus, Gordon is the type of recruit who would probably ignore the inevitable last second phone call from Calipari right before he signs.

Eron Gordon, a four-star shooting guard and one of the top prospects in the class of 2016, will announce his college destination this weekend, and the Wolf Pack is in the mix.

Gordon, the younger brother of NBA player, Eric Gordon, is a 6-foot-2, 175-pound guard from Indianapolis. He's the No. 81 recruit in the nation by Rivals.com and ranks No. 82 overall by Scout.com. Gordon averaged 24.5 points and 4.8 rebounds per game last season after he gained eligibility in January following a transfer from North Central High to Cathedral.

Gordon said he would announce his decision noon Saturday at The Jewish Community Center in Indianapolis (that's 10 a.m. Pacific time). Gordon's 10 finalists, which he announced on his Facebook page, include Nevada, LSU, Butler, Arizona State, Purdue, Auburn, Notre Dame, Xavier, Indiana and Nebraska. His recruitment has been topsy-turvy, so it's hard to pin down who is actually still in the mix and who the favorites are.

Scout.com basketball recruiting analyst Brian Snow said "right now it appears Indiana and Nevada are the two schools. It's a random mix." Snow said he believes Gordon will pick Indiana, the same school his two older brothers played for. Eric Gordon, who now plays for the New Orleans Pelicans, spent only one year with the Hoosiers. Middle brother, Evan, played at three colleges, including two years at Liberty, one at Arizona State and one at Indiana.

Wolf Pack coach Eric Musselman was an assistant coach at Arizona State during Evan Gordon's one season there. When I spoke to Evan during the 2013 Pac-12 Tournament, he had positive things to say about Musselman, so that relationship is a plus in the recruitment of the younger Gordon.

"My brother, playing in the NBA, he knew about Coach and said he knows a lot about the game and has been around it for a long time," Gordon said in 2013. "He's definitely an energy coach, a rah-rah kind of guy."

Eron Gordon is an excellent scorer who thrives in attacking the basket. He's a solid shooter and good rebounder for his size. He's a physical player who can play point guard but is best used off the ball.

The Wolf Pack has at least five scholarships open for the 2016 class.
