HoosierAloha Posted January 15, 2019 Posted January 15, 2019 Sunday night my 91-year old mother-in-law suffered a severe stroke resulting in the pressure from bleeding in her cranium to shift her brain 5 cm. The neurosurgeon told us that had a 50-year old suffered that same stroke he/she would have died instantly. As we age, our brains shrink and her shrinkage allowed her to survive the amount of internal pressure the stroke caused. Immediate surgery is not an option but I won't bore you with the medical reasons why. All we can do in the short term is take it day by day and your thoughts, prayers and good wishes will be most appreciated. Thank you. Thoughts and prayers Old Fart. Class of '66 Old Fart Posted January 24, 2019 Posted January 24, 2019 This has been a really rough 10 days for Mrs. OF and our entire family. 10-days ago I asked you for prayers for my mother-in-law who suffered a severe head injury. I'm sad to report she passed away last night. The injury was just too severe and major invasive surgery simply not an option for a multitude of reasons. My father-in-law had to be moved into a memory care unit 4-years ago after being diagnosed with dementia. In January of 2017, he suffered a stroke. My mother-in-law has spent virtually every single day in my father-in-law's room for the last 4-years and for about the last 6 months, has fed him his meals as he lost the ability to use silverware. We will always believe that despite how far gone his mind was that he sensed his wife was no longer in his room and talking to him and he decided it was time for him to leave this world. When we told my mother-in-law that her husband of 72-years had passed away her words were "I wanted to go with him". And last night she did. When their daughter and I first started dating, they welcomed me from day 1 and I couldn't have asked for better in-laws. Really appreciate everyone's prayers and thoughts. reconmkd Posted February 26, 2019 Posted February 26, 2019 I just want to ask that everyone say a prayer for my neighbor today. He is an avid IU fan, even drove to Bloomington this year in snow and ice to catch a game, as he lost his wife this morning. His teenage daughter found her around noon today, while he was at work, and ran to my wife, hysterical asking for help. All of this after loosing a son not long ago. Words cannot express the heart break that I feel for this family. Class of '66 Old Fart, jonz44, ThompsonHoosier and 2 others 5 Quote
