For the whole season, he was 60 of 158, which is 0.380.

In a 4 game stretch he went: 4/9, 6/10, 4/9, 6/15. All 40% or greater.

If those are excluded, his totals become 40/115, which is 0.348.

Not buying that logic. Those games counted and were largely wins. That’s good!

It’s the non-catch and shoot stuff that makes me feel moving on from Dorn was a fine idea.

It's my bad. I started the convo on asking what Dorn's numbers were if you take out that 3-4 game heater he had.

Completely agree that its totally unfair to Dorn to do that.

But yeah, I just think he's so limited. Would have been fine keeping as a 8th-10th guy in the rotation for experience and culture and some situational stuff, but my opinion is that he is not a starter on a good Big Ten team.

I don't know that Harris is either, but I'd take my chances with his upside given how well thought of he was.

That's fine, I was just answering a question.

I don't really have a take on the Dorn/Harris debate. Right now, neither impresses me much. In general, I'm not very excited about next basketball season. I am looking forward to football, though.

I guess I’m with @HoosierHoopster

in that I’m happier with a dice roll shooter than with the known quantity of Dorn.

I know this isn't necessarily fair to Dorn, but I wonder what those shooting numbers are if you take out his 3-game heater?

I also wonder what Harris can bring beyond. I'm not trying to hate on Dorn, but he did very little beyond streaky shooting.

If Harris can defend better, has some handling or creating he can provide, etc., he could upgrade in other areas. I don't know if he can do those things, but from what I saw from Dorn he can't.

From a production standpoint, Harris isn’t likely to surpass Dorn from last year and you’re likely paying Harris 2-3x the amount you could have paid Dorn. When you’re operating on a budget and need to fill as many holes as IU did this offseason, every dollar counts.

If Harris can average 10-11 off the bench and shoot from the perimeter at a clip similar to Dorn, I’ll shut up. But more likely than not, Harris is going to put up production numbers similar to Dorn but at a significantly higher cost.

I would bank that Harris will have a better year just for the reason that indiana has a much better PF, C combo than they had last year, which is going to open up the floor. In theory anyways

Wouldn’t that in theory also apply to Dorn? IU lacked a consistent 2nd scoring option all year behind Wilkerson. After Dorn went on a little heater in late January, teams treated him as such, and he struggled. Dorn would never be more than a 4th/5th option in almost any combination lineup next year. 8 points on 38% volume 3 point shooting for your 5th starter isn’t bad, especially when he’s only commanding $500-750k.

What level of production do you need to see from Harris to justify paying 7 figures?

Yeah, I'm with you on what maybe else could have been done with that money. Split between two other guys, etc.?

Just not with you on Dorn. Dorn was pretty bad last year. We don't know what Harris will be, completely agree there, but I can't imagine him being worse than Dorn outside of that 3-4 game heater.

He was 8 ppg 38% shooter on volume last year. It all counts. That’s more than practical for a 5th starter that plays a little over 20 mpg. Harris is going to need to far exceed that as a 6th man to justify paying 7+ figures. Dorn and someone like Del Jones probably cost similar to what IU paid Harris. Thats a ton more bang for your buck.
