Class of '66 Old Fart Posted January 20 Posted January 20 Oh, if we could only bottle just a little of our football program's success and inject it into our men's and women's bball programs. Alas, we cannot. IU women on a 6-game losing streak and 0-7 in conference play at Ohio State (17-2) (6-1) and I have no hope we can steal a win. We have to play near perfect basketball with the numerous weaknesses we have and I just can't see that happening Thursday night in Columbus. The Buckeyes have a +22 scoring margin. They force 23 turnovers/game and average 13 steals/game. Not a strong 3-point shooting team at 32% but probably won't have to attempt all that many and will just pound it inside. Aaron Posted January 22 Posted January 22 You guys have got to stop. This team is in a transition year and has the best recruiting class in program history coming in and the freshmen will be good if we are patient. To say you are tuning out this year is totally fair and I have mostly done same. However, to say Moren needs to go or retire over one bad year when help is clearly on the way is why we have one of the most fair weather fan bases ever. I get people being upset, but our fan base has to stop making grand program declarations and start supporting teams that are outside the top-five of their given sport in higher numbers. Moren absolutely screwed up her recruiting when she was winning. However, she has acknowledged that and made changes. However, this season is the unfortunate payoff of her past errors. Nobody has to stop anything. Moren is clearly not coaching this season (or, honestly, the last season also) as she has in the past. There's no connection to the players, not a whole lot of improvement in their play. Nobody in this thread has said she needs to go. Moren discussed her retirement, and a poster was speculating on it. Fans can fan, if a lackluster effort is given on the floor, there will be repercussions. Nobody wants to pay the stupidly increased prices to sit in worse seats, or give up 2 hours of their time to watch this product. I have not seen one single person say that they're done with IUWBB forever. Quote

That was one paragraph without context of whole article. She also said her passion is still there. I read this article as well and if you take the whole thing at face value, she is still very into this job. This year she is paying for her recruiting sins of past. Not a passion issue. As the cupboard refills with elite recruiting again, winning is very likely. Class of '66 Old Fart 1 Quote
HoosierHoopster Posted January 22 Posted January 22 Personally I think Moren was upset with the team that then essentially bailed on her and departed en masse after last season, that related to her talk of considering retirement. Don't know personally of course, but I disagree with the idea that she's not coaching -- she's dealing with the repercussions of an en masse player departure and a team in transition, with an absolutely outstanding -- best in program history -- incoming class next season on the way, while she also just once again excelled as HC in USA Basketball, as HC of the 2025 U19 Women's Team She's the all time winningest HC in IU women's bball history. 3 SW16's, an Elite Eight, 7 NCAA appearance, 10 consecutive tourney appearances, recently again B1G COY (2023). Not so much in this thread but there have been several posts on this Board taking pot shots at her and her coaching and to me that is flat out stupid. She's an outstanding coach, and while this season looks to be a disaster, for which she takes blame as HC, she's positioned herself with the new recruiting asst coach to be in great position next season. That doesn't look like retirement to me, and I hope it's not, trying to find a replacement coach at her level of ability? Good luck with that. Pagoda, NatHillIV and Aaron 2 1 Quote

I remember last summer, she described coaching (from the season to the National Team) as a "treadmill", which seemed like an odd choice of words. When you view your job as a treadmill, it's probably time to look at alternatives, if there are any. She certainly has some + she must be well-provided for financially by now. Quote

I think this goes back to before her "recruiting sins" back when we were #1 seed and lost at home to Miami. Under performing as well as at times over performing but never much consistency. I have supported her teams thru thick and thin and even now. I as well as many may not see that "help is on the way" as hopeful as maybe you do. I always hope for the best, but there is a disconnect in her coaching that i'm sure I will never know what it is. mamasa 1 Quote

I don't want to be negative at all because I would rather TM figure it out than change coaches. Maybe the silver lining is Colston Thompson. Maybe a recruiter like him has been the missing piece of the puzzle. Hopefully, but if this next class doesn't work out i'm pretty sure a change will be in order and most likely TM will know when to call it quits unlike a former mens coach. mamasa 1 Quote
