Understood and agreed.  I'm certainly hoping for the best, I just don't see that happening out of this guy.  Not consistently anyway. And full confession that I bet you already know, I love watching the slow learners beat their chests then flame out.  I just wonder why they do it over and over.  I'm nit near as angry as they read into my posts.

Just imagine what the landscape of college basketball would look like if every first year coach who didn’t make the tournament was fired on the spot? No Bob Knight, no Wooden or Coach K. Jay Wright? See ya. Dan Hurley? Nope.

Tough standard to live up too, but this is Josh’s world and we’re just living in it.

Didn’t Tucker get hurt like 7 games into the season?   He barely played

Yeah 6 games I think.  It was a total excuse for leaving them out.   Arizona and Gonzaga games were with him in the lineup.  I get that they didn’t make the tourney but man they got hosed bigger then any team I can remember

10 seed.  I had Texas out as well but they put them in with 7 home losses.  Last year was a weird year for the committee

I don't really give two shats about Dan Hurley, but only point out he took over a worse dumpster fire than IU, without open transfers and NIL.  As soon as those rules came into play, his success skyrocketed.  Let's at least compare apples to apples.

He took over a team with several top 50 recruits and a team that returned its top 2 scorers. You’re right, it ain’t apples to apples, DeVries didn’t inherit ****

Hurley’s success took off when he hired Luke Murray away from Xavier to run his offense, not because he recruited Cam Spencer away from Rutgers or Tristan Newton away from East Carolina.

Regardless of who inherited a worse situation and the realistic turnaround time for the era, there is something about that UConn program that produces serious results, even with several different coaches.  Basically the opposite of IUBB since the late 90’s.

Not that KenPom is the end all, be all. But, UConn was 98th in a way weaker conference (still in the AAC) in Hurley's first season.

DeVries has IU 35th and at least at this point positioned to make the tournament.

Yea, he’s recruited well but wouldn’t have won either title without the transfer and nil rules. Comparing his or anyone’s first year who didn’t start in the last 3 years is specious at best.  2 of his top 4 players this year are transfers whereas none of his players in his first year were.  
 

Dveries exists in a new world where all of his players are his and he was given a top 10-20 budget to get them. You have to own it.

Hurley didn’t win a tournament game until the 3rd year of unlimited transfers. 4/5 of his starters during his first title run were organically recruited out of high school. Stop your yapping, you look silly.
