Just think about how long it’s been. And DeVries has done it in 3 games.

It’s shouldn’t be a revelation after Cig made the playoffs with Allen leftovers and guys that couldn’t get a P4 sniff:

Hire the right leadership and the results follow. It’s true in all areas of life.

He has implemented so much in 3 games. I always thought basketball concepts took entire seasons to implement. We would still be waiting for players to adjust to the pack line defense....

This is totally unrelated, but apparently Penny Hardaway only started installing their offense and defense a few days before their first game, lol... DDV clearly knows what he is doing when it comes to X's and O's. I take a lot of comfort in that.

Everyone here really likes Ken Pom whatever that is

On a basketball message board you are likely to find posts about basketball analytics. Especially ones that influence whether your team makes the tournament field and how they are seeded.

“Ken” is a brand of delicious salad dressing originally made in the Boston western suburbs.

“Pom” is short for pomegranate.

What’s not to like?

KenPom's honey mustard dressing is perfect for chicken.

It’s also acceptable to like Torvik or Sagarin, if you want to kick it old school.

I especially like Sagarin because he hasn’t updated them since April of 2023 and we were #23 then, lol

But can you put Sagarin or Torvik on a salad?

I think not.

It's a more accurate way of ranking teams, because it uses actual data and strength of opponents. The AP is full of voters who don't even watch basketball and others who let their personal biases get in the way.

Ha…didn’t even know that. Hope he’s ok. He was/is an Indiana native and used to do HS basketball too. One of my good coaching buddies would always look and tell me if they over/under-performed what sagarin said they were supposed to do. Lol

in a weird way he was the original but got kind of burned by partnering with USA Today, which became a dying medium while guys like KenPom set up their own site which eventually had to get more traffic.

Most basketball stats are useless, especially in the hands of the ignorant (*cough* NBA), but I’ve always found them fun. It probably dates back to my HS coach in the 90’s who had his own proprietary “system.” It probably wasn’t worth a hoot but he was obsessive about tracking the stuff.

I understand that he had some health problems earlier this year and none of his ratings were updated for a while. He’s back now, but he got butthurt a few years ago when people started using KenPom and the NET and started ignoring his, so he stopped publishing his college basketball ratings.
