I see Mike is still listing Goode and Leal although technically they're no longer on the roster or scholarship.  And 13 is the magic number to not go over to avoid revenue sharing monetary penalties.

Is it possible for Leal and Goode to be on the roster / team and not take up a scholarship but still get NIL money without causing an issue with Rev. sharing?

Without knowing the rules or looking them up, that sounds like a real stretch and fairly obvious attempt to circumvent the roster limitation. Maybe an issue for the compliance team, but the limit is 13 before extra money cost to the U.

From what I've seen, it sounds like up to $2.5M in scholarships above the old roster limit will count against the amount of revenue sharing a school can pay. In effect, revenue sharing is used to pay for the scholarships. That's my understanding, at least. So NIL paying for school with no scholarship or revenue sharing paying for the scholarship seems like basically the same thing.

It’s not all bad news. Schools do have the option to increase scholarships in sports where the previous scholarship limits were lower than the new roster limits. It was initially anticipated that not many would do this, as the value of new scholarships up to $2.5 million will count against the amount a school can distribute for revenue sharing.

Yep. Watch his highlights. Maybe he’s not a big contributor but he’s a physical presence on the D end and a lob threat.

Averaged 15/10/3 in his league. Seems to have good hands for his size. Can’t shoot. But we have VERY little depth at C, and no one with his skillset.

It doesnt say 15/10/3.. it says he played 31 total mins.. scored  5p and 8r... total.

In the French U-21 league he put up the big numbers. Then he got called up for a cup of coffee to the same club’s grown man team and barely got run, but it was as a 19 year old.

He’s a 6’11 inch big wing span raw project that would be a great get as the 13th scholly player. Not someone that should be counted on for 10+mpg.

I know Leal is out, but are we pretty much assuming Goode is too at this point?  
 

I think having Goode back would be a net positive but swapping him out for depth in the post would be a solid move as well.

I have not seen anything official on Leal.  Do we know for sure he is out?   Also, any word on the 7"3" visit from last week?  Name escapes me.

Would have liked to have him as a depth piece, but ultimately he was an unranked guy who left NC State after they over recruited with a 10 minute mid-major big.  His value was from the fact that there aren't many guys available right now.

Yeah, he's better than that I think, and it's more that he offers something we just plain don't have.  But he wanted big boy money and Indiana has decided against that for several prospects like this that are asking for "too much".  Also Federico Federico.  We brag about our Nil and its strong but it's not quite to the level of some of these other programs.  Maybe football is taking a bite out of it.  They definitely are.  I think we are putting some money at other sports as well.  

I like DeVries and his mannerisms.  His confidence.  I just hope he's getting the guys he wants to get and not being held back by our Nil, which I personally think he is.

I can't quite tell exactly what's up with MBB rev share/NIL.  I believe the $10M figure, though that feels like #10-15 in the country vs. top-10 due to other schools increasing their commitments, notably with the Big East being able to push a lot of rev share to MBB given they don't have top tier FB.  We're very good on the MBB side, but not at the tippy top.  I don't know to what extent CDD is being held back -- some of these players we missed on could be insufficient funds (not good) and some could just be terrible values we legit passed on (smart!).

We have a decent stable of big donors for NIL and our athletic dept (Cook, Simon, Ned, Andy, etc.) -- thankfully btw, for example Purdue wishes they had people like this.  But, our athletic dept revenue is still on the lower end of the P2 schools because our FB program is small.  I'd guess FB NIL/rev share is around #25 in the country (huge progress actually) and as noted MBB is probably #10-15. 

Two things would help us:

1) We need FB to keep taking off.  It's the only thing that can really change the financial profile of our athletic dept.  The more money FB can bring in, the more we free up our donors to focus on NIL (the kicker on top of rev share), which includes NIL to basketball.

2) CDD has a good first season and energizes the donor base with belief in his program.  NIL does still to some extent depend on how excited donors are.

It's a brutal arms race out there.  MBB could use a few million more and FB could use $10M+!  I'm glad Scott has a fundraising background...

On one hand not having football frees up the big east to have big money for basketball. OTOH, we need football to have big money for basketball. Not sure how to square that circle.

Yea, I get what you’re saying, I’m not sure which setup is better for MBB.

I guess at the end of the day if you have a P2 FB program that takes 75% of the rev share and quite a bit of NIL as well, you need that FB program to be good and to make a lot of money.
