Barrel Foundation is probably my favorite. I order one every so often from their website. For 54 bucks you cant beat it.

I have heard fantastic things about Barrel Foundation. I prefer the sweeter notes like vanilla and caramel in my bourbon and seems like it might have that? Is it limited release or available regularly?

If those are your favorite notes for palate you would really like it, I have never had a problem ordering it direct from their website. Nose is very fruity. I usually do 2 at a time. It is kinda their "new" mass produced one, it is not as old so also not as hot. Heavy on the rye as well. I don't care for too many above like 110 proof to be honest. Foundation is 100 and the only one they make at that proof I think. I do like one of theirs thats 114, but that is way too expensive for me to enjoy more than every so often lol

Edit: I am also a simpleton when it comes to bourbon. It is my favorite liquor so I just trial and error. I but one I havent had in my price range and if I like it, I add it to the cabinet. This one has been my favorite since I randomly bought it at total wine like a year ago lol.

Gibson’s Finest, Rare. Canadian whiskey. Could only get it north of the border or a duty-free shops. Total Wine and More now carries it. Yay for me.

Such a good thread lol. I’ve had some health issues for a year now, so my drinking has been almost zero. However, I purchased RedBreat Irish Whiskey - Aged 12 Years. HIGHLY recommend, it’s soooo good. Father-in-law quickly offered to take it off my hands. Voted a top 100 whiskey, well, that’s at least what the liquor store advertised.

Went on a cruise with the top shelf drink package, which included RedBreast 15. That stuff is amazing! A little pricey for me to keep at home but wow. Had some 12 year recently-also very very good!

Where do we stand on a splash of cola, regardless of the quality of the bourbon? I’m not huge on bourbon straight/cut with water. Not a full on mixer, but a splash. 

(I’m still gonna drink it my way regardless of what you damn dirty gatekeepers say)

Whatever tastes good to you is what you should drink!

I’ll say this; if you’re going to alter the taste a little with cola, you can go with some very affordable bottled in bond bottles like Evan Williams for a much lower price and really not lose any quality.

I get by on the $35 handle of Maker’s from Sam’s. I’ll have a couple about once a week so that lasts me a long time. Every once in a while I’ll pop into our liquor store and ask my guy what he’s got in that price range.

Bingo. Mixed drinks = $35 handle of something pretty decent like Maker’s. The only downside for me of that Maker’s handle is that the proof is kinda low at 90. I’m a 100+ kind of guy!

I'm in the process of teaching my sons the difference between mixing whiskey and sippin' whiskey. (one of the three is 21, so that makes it okay; and after all, it's a father's duty)  For mixing, Makers is a standard.  Easy and almost everyone will drink that mixed with anything they like with no complaint.   Jack Daniels and Crown Royal also serve that purpose for me even though that's not bourbon, which is MY preference. 

To sip, my current favorite (and also for an old fashioned) is Angel's Envy Finished Rye.  Finished in a rum cask and oh my goodness.   It tastes like butterscotch.  For those who like a great bottle of bourbon, it's hard to beat one I had with my uncle last week...Elijah Craig 18 year.  Hard to find, but stupid good.

Makers is a really good choice. Last time I got drunk was off that, couldn’t put it down lol. 
 

I do like some Crown, but prefer to use Pepsi for that if I mix it.

Picked up my limit of Olf Forester 117 on my annual trip to Btown for a game. The heavily charred barrel makes this the smoothest I’ve ever sipped.

Love me some Old Forester. Other than their lowest end standard fare (meh), all the rest ranges from pretty good to really great, and none of them are crazy expensive. Even the $28 100 proof rye is a banger.

Gave up on bourbon and coke with a twist of lime a couple of decades ago.  Still have a sip of bourbon on one big rock...once in a while with a slice of lime.  Must be a tribute to my ole man.

I like rye in the bourbon mash.  Maker's Mark has no rye...but it is a standard bourbon.

I have a comment about Jack Daniels.  It is quite the fun discussion.  If you look at the mash bill and how it is stored and in the kind of wood, etc.  One might just say that it is a bourbon distilled in TN.

Jack Daniels: 80% Corn, 8% Rye,12% Barley

Old Forester: 72% Corn, 18% Rye, 10% Barley

Woodford Reserve: 72% Corn, 18% Rye, 10% Barley

Bulleit Bourbon: 68% Corn, 28% Rye, 4% Barley

George Dickel: 84% Corn, 8% Rye, 8% Barley

Elijah Craig: 78% Corn,10% Rye, 12% Barley

Jim Beam: 75% Corn, 13% Rye, 12% Barley

Bakers: 75% Corn, 13% Rye, 12% Barley

Knob Creek: 75% Corn, 13% Rye, 12% Barley

Old Grandad Bottled in Bond: 63% Corn, 27% Rye, 10% Barley

Wild Turkey: 75% Corn, 13% Rye, 12% Barley

Makers Mark: 70% Corn 16% Wheat, 14% Barley

Four Roses Single Barrel: 60% Corn, 35% Rye, 5% Barley

I do not like too much oak.  I also will drink your expensive bourbon if you offer it.

I lean toward Heaven Hill distilled brands.  A couple of exceptions, of course...Four Roses Small Batch is my go to brand now.  Can pop on Four Roses Single B...if you want to up the proof.  Not sure if it is worth the jump in price, though.

I can afford almost any bourbon that I want.  But I really have an issue about overspending when my palate and billfold tell me different things.  

I have tried Ocean...smooth.  But a wheat bourbon...well, some of them are, I think.

I've done the smoke thing on top of a bourbon drink.  Fun.

I have even tried a smoked water from grilling something with mesquite and using that water to make a big ice cube.  No grease in it please.

Old Fashioneds are great if it doesn't have too much orange or cherry added.  And I had a walnut bitters that was really not my favorite.  Old Fashioned with rye will also satisfy me.

New Riff is interesting...but overpriced.

Done some craft bourbons from around Dayton.  Most are only a few years old and need 7 or more.

Going much above $40 for .75L of 100 proof 7 year bourbon is not my style.

Maybe I will try more single b for grins and giggles.  

Or maybe that OF 117.  

Ever have a Bellini in San Marco plaza in Venice?  Ever have Port in Porto?  Ever have a Harvey Wallbanger in a disco in NYC?  Ever have Ouzo on a ocean-going ferry from Greece to Italy?  Brandy is the go-to drink in Wisconsin.  Loved Kir in southern France.  It is a white wine coctail with Creme de Cassis and a blackcurrant liquor...try it.  

I was in the Navy.  Being in port after a very long tour of sea duty was always an adventure in how to spend lots of times doing the pub crawl.  Ever see the movie...The Last Detail?  

Will do a bourbon tour some day.  Been to Napa Valley CA.  France and Italy have fine choices of wines.
