Soooooo...... GO HOOSIERS! Beat the snot out of them. Disagree, strongly. We're shooting 3's by volume at the bottom of D1 ball -- the consistent problem with Woody's offense since day 1 --that's why we score so damn low, you can't win playing a 2-point (and 2-big) game against 3-point shooting teams in any manner of consistency. Yes, we're shooting too few 3's, and don't say we don't have good enough 3-point shooters, just not true. We have some shooters, it doesn't matter if they've been off a few games, what matters is that they shoot the damn ball. Quote

Last year we shot about 16 per game. so we are shooting more of them but still well under the national average. Quote

Yes, we're shooting too few 3's, and don't say we don't have good enough 3-point shooters, just not true. We have some shooters, it doesn't matter if they've been off a few games, what matters is that they shoot the damn ball. Teams that make a very low percentage of their threes should not ignore the three ball, but they shouldn't over-indulge either. You don't want me to say "we don't have good enough 3-point shooters?" Okay, how about "we have two good three point shooters on the entire roster; Mgbako and Goode, and they are horrible (Mgbako) or very limited (Goode) defenders. And they play the same position! Therefore, they are very rarely on the court at the same time and when they are it hasn't gone well." So in reality, we have one 'average or better' three-point shooter on the court at any given time. Every other rotational player has been a below average three point shooter in their college career, and this staff hasn't developed confident shooters or players with '1,000 shot a day work ethics' that improve from three. On the other hand, we have three rotational players that are borderline elite near the rim; Reneau, Ballo, and Rice, and at least two of them are on the court together almost always. We need to shoot a reasonable amount of threes to keep defenses spread out and we're now doing that, but this team's strength is near the rim. PS: Our defensive rotations, awareness, and effort have kinda sucked - that's the bigger problem. WayneFleekHoosier, Dave from Dayton and WeeDerkaNaut 3 Quote
Dave from Dayton Posted January 2, 2025 Posted January 2, 2025 What's the word on Ballo? I will speculate that he will play. The word is likely....keep Rutger guessing. So, then, what's the word on Woody? I will speculate that he will stare and glare. The word is likely...he is attempting telepathy. So, two struggling teams meet in a conference game. I hope Reneau doesn't foul twice in the first half...early on. I hope that defense is good...whichever team has the best defense and hangs on to the ball will win this. Could be a high scoring game. ray Posted January 2, 2025 Posted January 2, 2025 I read through a few of these threads, and they all seem about the same. There is no confidence from the fan base, and the overall perceived outlook is dismal. This much I can understand. However, I haven't been on BTB much this season (or any other IU basketball forums), and I believe it's because even if the performance on the floor becomes significantly improved, there will still be so much negativity surrounding the basketball program. I'm not impressed either, but gee-my-knees-christmas, some of you kids should attempt to crawl out of the perpetual darkness, even if only briefly, to take a few deep breaths and reach hard for even a small hint of optimism. It will make life more pleasurable, I can almost assure you. Schreckbagger 1 Quote
WeeDerkaNaut Posted January 2, 2025 Posted January 2, 2025 1 of 20 for 5% completion. You're better off just playing to your strength and cramming the post and try to draw fouls to take their inside guys off the court, make them rely on their outside shooters and hope they're not on fire because our closeouts on threes are terrible. Not a good option either way but that's what we have to work with. Or you can just keep chucking bricks with hope and a prayer and quickly drown in the deficit. Quote

We're not miserable we're apathetic. We're struggling to care about a program we have always deeply enjoyed. And that's because of the coach and how he has acted beyond his on court duties, his performance as a coach completely aside. We don't want to be negative or harsh about things but what do you do when the only bright spot is February when the coach gets replaced by someone who doesn't just say they care about the program but actually proves it. And it's a public forum, people are going to voice their opinions. Outside of IUBB we enjoy life a great deal I assure you. sweetpain, Jeff Flabjohns, Hornsby and 1 other 4 Quote

Against Chattanooga Reneau was in foul trouble and Ballo didn't play. You see what happens when we don't have an inside game to rely on. Stuhoo 1 Quote

So pray Ballo stays out of the clubs and Reneau doesn't hit the bench early. If they do we bring in Hatton again and work the post through him. Quote

Also if Woodson wants to keep a 'suspension' hidden as an injury, he would pretty much have to keep it on the injury report. Would not surprise me to see that he doesn't start but comes into the game pretty quickly (which, IMO, is a useless action). Quote
