Wonder what he said or did.

He wanted Woodson to put in more effort. He’d coordinate it for him. Woodson didn’t want to so he talked to another staffer who agreed with him. They all had good intentions but Woodson didn’t want anything to do with it.

Sounds like Woodson doesn't do well with criticism or just doesn't like to be called out for being wrong.

You didn’t catch that from last year when many fans, including many on this board criticized him for roster construction, mass substitutions, etc… and he said they weren’t true fans!  If you go against him or criticize him, he retaliates in either firing his coaches or calling out fans.  He needs to go, and everyone knows how I feel about him.  I still think he fired Dane Fife for this exact reason too!

I get that Adam had good intentions but when that's the call that's the call but Woodson should've heard him out and not had reacted in the fashion that he did and fired him.

True, but I’ve done the same type of stuff with HC’s I’ve worked for. Most HC’s say they don’t like having yes men but I don’t think that applies here

Seems like a difference of opinions and personalities and Woodson got his panties in a bunch.

This is stupid. I feel like one of the most important parts of being a good leader is surrounding yourself with smart people and being able to take constructive criticism. Hopefully this doesn’t burn the bridge with Adam because he’s going to be an asset to any program. I’m tired of the Mike Woodson era and it’s only been one game this season. Hopefully Scott is able to whatever is needed at the end of the season.

Adam loves Indiana. Woodson… not so much

I was told there will be long term ramifications. There are players and other staffers that are not happy with this decision by Woodson

FFS.

This better not be the case, or the season may be over before it even gets started.

So Woodson doesn't just have an undeservedly large ego, it's apparently very fragile.

In my experience, most with oversized egos are fragile... questioning him gets what Fife and Howard got. It's borderline bullying, IMO.

If this crap-fest knocks the wheels off this season, we get what we want - "former coach Mediocre Mike Woodson". Not rooting for the negativity to affect the season, but kicking MMW to the curb would not make me angry or sad. Whatever happens, no matter how this ends, this is 100% on the arrogant one.

If true, Woodson is extremely petty, which I suppose isn’t too shocking considering what we saw with the Dane Fife situation.

But Howard is extremely young, he shouldn’t really be challenging a head coach during his first “big boy” job on the college level. Being let go isn’t an ideal highlight on a coaching resume a week into the season.

Only if you like "yes men" surrounding you.

This came from the Trilly discord from a well sourced individual as well. Both stories have been confirmed by Trilly after he did some digging for us.

What l've heard...
Adam was had been frustrated with Liam last year because of how it was handled post commitment. He then was even more frustrated with the Mullins recruitment because he felt like it was winnable if Woodson had got more involved. The overall feeling was Woody was involved heavily in the Haralson recruitment and they felt like it was less
winnable than Mullins. Woodson had heard about the frustration and decisions were made.

So the guy "running" recruiting has some issues with recruiting (as it clearly sucks at this point) that the HC doesn't like it so he lets the kid go?  Bold move Cotton, let see how it works out.

Adam Howard is a 23 year old operations assistant. Woody is the head of the program.

If you don’t like the way the big boss does things, you’re supposed to respectfully ask to make a recommendation. If the boss hears you out and decides otherwise? It’s a settled issue.

If the boss is the type that won’t hear you out or hears you out and you think still makes terrible decisions? Then it’s your decision to find alternate employment or get on board.

What a 23 year old junior employee should never do? Gripe about the boss’s final decisions behind his back. If you’re going to do that you should’ve taken that offer from Dusty May at Michigan.

Period.

From a previous post is sound like they had that discussion and Woody didn't like it.  No evidence that this was "behind his back."

There’s nothing more to it. In fact the recruiting rift they had started like this. Howard was vocal to Woody about his thoughts on recruiting. Woody disagreed (and was wrong). Adam had a conversation with another coach. The other coach was aligned with Adam. Woody wanted it dropped entirely.

Adam wanted Woodson to be more engaged with recruits. He was going to coordinate this for Woodson. Woodson however felt he was engaged enough.

So basically the boss wouldn't let the employee do his damn job.  So the kid got fired.  Brilliant.
