That’s awesome! So beat Maryland at home and we’re ranked.

Don’t beat Maryland at home? We don’t deserve to be ranked.

MD is the key (and we need to win at NW).

I’m very excited but don’t blame the pollsters for wanting to see more as FIU lost at home to Monmouth this past weekend which makes our FIU/Western IL/Charlotte OOC “gauntlet” look even softer. Win a few more and the OOC schedule won’t matter as much.

Hold the Mayo. I want New Year’s Day.

All I'm thinking about right now is getting to the 1st CFB playoff ranking on 11/5 undefeated. I assume if they can get there they are probably in the initial ranking which is, frankly, nuts to contemplate. So, Maryland, Nebraska and Washington home and NW and Mich St on the road.

About a td favorite against MD and UW, and maybe a fg favorite in the other three games. That's a tough five game feat to pull off.

Our good buddy, Jerry Palm, has us penciled into the Duke's Mayo Bowl against SMU in his latest projections:

Hope he is wrong (and realize he probably will be since it’s so early).

I desperately want us to make a bowl, and plan on attending, but early January in Charlotte doesn’t exactly fire me up.

Yeah, I have to agree on this.  My wife will go to a bowl game, but she would prefer someplace with a greater warmth quotient.

Palm is a big time Purdue…uh…….palm-er. This early in the season we’re probably a good 1.5 wins above what he’s projecting.

I agree with your wife. The average January high/low in Charlotte is 51/31 which is not exactly what I am looking for at a bowl game.  That said it’s so early he is just taking a wild guess and at this point Palm hasn’t come to the realization that our bowl season will begin in the playoffs (what can I say? I have  a dream!!).

A few numbers to chew on with your morning coffee.

IUs NCAA rankings:

Total Defense- #3

Total Offense- #11

3rd Down conversion %- #3

3rd Down conversion %  Defense- #20

Turnover margin- #3

One of three teams without a TO this season.

Yes, the competition has not been stellar, but if you win the 3rd down battles and don't turn the ball over, you're gonna win. I googled it.

I highlighted the most important sentence. This team is obviously better prepared and more grounded for games like these less than stellar teams. This team is very well coached!

In decades past, we let those teams play with us because we either took our foot off the gas, got over confident or just plain overlooked them. So far this season, I see zero indications of this!

GO IU!

Artie86, I agree with this assessment.  Plus, the fact the play calling from the sideline puts the team in a position to boast those type of numbers.  In the past the play calling left me scratching my head.

Very well coached team and very good coaching preparedness.  Let's hope that continues against better coached teams.

So he has Nebraska, Illinois and Michigan playing SEC teams, Wisconsin playing an ACC team and slates IU to play MAC Toledo.  I think he is off base but who knows, maybe he is right.
The beauty is that our destination will largely be settled on the field and the next three games will really show us where we stand.  Cig wouldn’t admit it but IU has a dream scenario in the next three games getting MD and NB at home with NW being the road game. Couldn’t have been scripted better for the team.

I can't help but chuckle when I see these social media posts lauding our 4-0 start.

There are always a bunch of comments from Toiletmakers fans ridiculing our schedule thus far.

JFC -- we spent how many years tussling with Penn State, Michigan and O$U while they've lined up against the Minnesotas, Northwesterns and Illinoises.

Those kids from West Laugh-a-lot -- such silly little people!

If IUFB were in the SEC they'd be ranked no lower than #15. Regarding Big Ten schedules, O$U's 4-0 schedule is the second weakest next to ours.

Regardless, folks are now starting to pay attention and should our beloved Hoosiers win this weekend the flood gates will be released where the national talking heads will start talking about IUFB like it's a surprise or something. It's kind of already started. But the big dogs will be talking about IUFB should they go 5-0. Had any of them done any research to what was going on during the offseason none of it would be all that surprising to them. And I love it that Coach Cig warned them during the Big Ten media day. They all just kind of laughed at him and there are plenty of receipts.
