There’s definitely a world where you splash cash on those 3 and they never really amount to anything more than the sum of their parts from the prior year. I have said I think Dusty has done an excellent job coaching this group. But sometimes you can get a lucky too. Hard to be as good as Michigan without a touch of luck. Quote

If you watched Mara and Morez none of it was a surprise. They were in timeshares. Their skillsets were undeniable to me. Cadeau is a different breed. He’s been better than expected. And then to think we are paying top dollar for that expertise. There are some worrying explanations for that and some comforting explanations: Worrying? This staff is not good at evaluations This staff cannot develop the guys that they evaluate After last year, the staff will not have enough of a track record to effectively pitch to priority recruits Comforting? The staff didn't have enough time to build a plan and a pitch for the guys they really wanted The staff put evaluation responsibilities in the hands of certain staff, when other staff should have been and are now the primary decision makers Hiring the two Carrs significantly boosts our evaluation abilities The staff now has a better idea of what will succeed at this level BtownStrength, Home Jersey, JF87 and 2 others 5 Quote

Doesn't absolve them from some of their player evaluations...just paints a better picture. If we're in this same boat next year, it may be time to have that conversation. But with a full year of scouting and a continued staff and roster I don't think that will be the case. J34, HoosierHoopster and Juwan Moye 3 Quote

But he couldn’t really crack the starting lineup of a mediocre Illinois team last year. There’s a chance that practicing against Lendenborg all summer is what made things click for him. Or Dusty. Or it was just inevitable like you claim. I’m not convinced that if he goes someplace like Kansas or UNC he has the same season he has at Michigan. Home Jersey 1 Quote

His defensive length changed things. Grumpy Cronin not knowing what to do with him. Free throw shooting is a liability. But the vision was there. Need more time and just a little confidence. But even if he just patrolled the paint, he’d meet his worth. Anything else is extra. Home Jersey 1 Quote

Maybe but he made that team USA roster, so it wasn’t only Dusty and I that saw the vision. Quote

Unless you watched the games. Thats my point. Team success isn’t the factor. Timeshares aren’t always the factor. It’s like when Edey was playing behind Williams, you could see it. The guy was incredible. But he was in a timeshare. Coaches sometimes have tough decisions and don’t always do the best things. It’s like At Purdue. You have to play Williams but it was easily arguable that Edey was Better. Had he transferred people would have been like, why didn’t Painter play him more? He was stuck. Find talent, play talent. EasyEJay Posted 11 hours ago Posted 11 hours ago My fear is Binuga recruitment has IU getting burned at the last min written all over it. Trying to budget and build a roster around a guy with a 4-4.5 million dollar asking price while holding off a long list of suitors all while he goes through the NBA draft process could mean potentially missing out on some productive talent elsewhere at multiple positions. Especially if he when decides last min to stay in the draft OR gets an 11th hour offer for more money. Don't get me wrong I would LOVE to see the big man in Cream and Crimson, and IU desperately needs a Big man but we also need ELITE PG play and athletes on the wing. So if you can still accomplish this and pay 4-4.5 million go for it. Personally id like to see PG taken care of ASAP been a decade since IU even had a good one. pumpfake 1 Quote

Underwood was devastated to lose him. Morez would have been getting big minutes on Illinois this year. Especially with big men, Dusty has cultivated a brand/culture that allows him pick of the litter. Guys want to go there and will take less $ to do so. That’s where you want to be. Getting top guys but at 80% of their max market rate. Like Cig with QBs. Their roster was of course still more expensive than ours. University saw what he did in year one and opened the floodgates, again like Cig. Hopefully we have a coach that can start to build something meaningful here. He’ll likely never take us to a FF, but maybe this moribund program can start consistently making the tourney again. WayneFleekHoosier 1 Quote

I don’t see this one happening. I’d love to watch him in Candy Stripes. He’s seems to be a money driven dude, but he plays hard. I absolutely don’t forecast him as a Hoosier, with this staff. With Woody? No brainer, lol. EasyEJay 1 Quote
