Never mentioned height. Shocked Florida wouldn’t entertain the idea of bringing back Alexis if he’s as good as advertised, especially considering there’s a possibility they might lose both Condon and Chinyelu.

Yup, but the pay was good. Florida wasn’t going to touch him for that amount?

The gets are “overpays”. Just gotta have a great scout and moneyball it. I think Freshman add nice roster stability for cheaper but we didn’t have the luxury.

They will get Chinyelu back and when Alexis got hurt he lost his back up spot to Handlogten who is back as well.  His is a 5 not a 4.  They let Aberdeen go as well.

I know he’s a 5. Just would have expected a lot more bang for my buck for that price range. I liked the addition last week when it was announced…but I also thought he was just a 10-12 mpg depth piece who could play his way into a bigger role in 26-27.

Ugo got 1.5 million.  What bang for your buck are you getting? Apparently you thought Baba was that and he ain’t.  He is not getting 1.5 million from any team right now.  FF is wanting 2.5 million and he is struggling with that.  That’s what better players got.  The market is crap man.

The market got inflated bc of revenue sharing this coming year.

Well yeah.  The big market is insane.  The Washington kid who was a top 50 2025 recruit got passed on by SJ and KSU because his ask is insane now.  Washington was going to pay him 7 figures.

Would have gladly negotiated Federiko down to as close to $2mil as possible at the expense of Bailey and someone like Deuce Drake…if it were me.

Understand that the timelines don’t always work like that, but with Bailey being one of the first additions, I personally would have looked for more two-way caliber players out on the perimeter…again if it were me.

I do think with a legitimate rim protector and/or a couple of really good wing defenders this is a team that isn’t sweating it out on Selection Sunday.

I don’t necessarily think Bailey/Alexis/Harris is a bad rotation at the 5 (and of course 2 of those 3 will see time at the 4 too). But the fact they’ve sniffed around other, less offensively versatile screen/dive/block/board/dunk bigs suggests to me they can still add one, despite Tyme et al making hedged suggestions that the roster is basically finished.

If you’re looking for a part-time player, 15-20 minutes or less depending on opponent, I don’t think it’s a terribly rare and thus expensive thing.

There are a lot of teams that will be interesting to see how they look after all this. We are one of them. I think offensively we will be perfectly fine and I think DeVries has historically shown he doesn’t need height for his bigs for defense.  Personally I don’t think we will be sweating it out.  Probably be ranked 30-40 at the beginning of the season and if we finish there we won’t be sweating.  I think our defense numbers will improve thoughout the season.  However that means jack.  Prove it.

Apparently it is if we’re paying Alexis a million dollars. Quinten Post is on a two-way making $430k for the Warriors as a part time starter.

Alexis is a guess.  One number we haven’t seen yet.  I am just going off the outrageous market as it is right now.  For example we were told we were the highest bidder for Conerway at that price.

We really think Miss St or Vanderbilt was offering anywhere close to $1.25 mil for Conerway? And I like Conerway.

We were at 1 million and there was one team that countered us at the end for it to raise so I am assuming that was MSU.

Ah

There is a lot of insanity happening right now.  Gonzaga is not looking good.  I think we got good value based on market prices and how astronomical it is.  In addition, there have been kids who have signed but are still shopping themselves around.  None of our kids but others.

I tried explaining this in vain earlier in the thread.

A guy like PJ Haggerty, who is really good, reportedly turned down $3m from Memphis as he was asking for $4m. Ole Miss reportedly offered him $3.5m.

So the idea that all-conference mid major guys like Bailey or Conerway are making $1m+ should be pretty easy to see why this is the case. Conerway especially given he was the Sun Belt POY, really excited to have him.

Who gives a chit what these guys are getting paid? Not like we’ve spent so much we can’t fill out the roster. Money ball, overpay, market value… we’re all p!ssing into the wind over here without a clue, lmao. And we really think Trilly Donovan’s basically got the financial figures for everyone on every roster? The way he/they are perceived as a golden source of truth is pretty humorous considering they’ve admitted to not being as tapped into IU. Perhaps that’s changed with the new staff but I highly doubt they’re just sharing anything and everything with “Trilly Donovan” because he’s oh so trustworthy. And any intel from agents should be taken with a huge grain of salt.

I’m an IUBB fan, couldn’t give a crap what the payroll is. Just win. I think this roster and coach can do that. Gonna have to wait to find out.

The point the Debbie downers were trying to make was basically our roster isn’t as good as it could be because we didn’t spend money. (Paraphrasing here)

Regardless, this roster looks solid by all accounts, especially on the shooting front. If our main weakness is “rim protection” I can live with that in year 1 of a “tear it down to the studs” rebuild.
