Sure, but as a thought experiment let's assume we had $10m to build a roster this offseason. I don't know the actual number but this seems a reasonable approximation. Given some of the numbers thrown around it seems reasonable to assume we paid something like the following: Tucker DeVries - $2m Lamar Wilkerson - $2m Reed Bailey - $1.5m So that's $5.5m of $10m spend leaving $4.5m left to fill out the other 9 spots that we have which would be an average of $500k per player. Given Cupps reportedly got paid $600k you can see how the budget gets eaten up quickly. If we're closer to having a $12m - $13m budget then there's some more wiggle room here but, even then, it's easy to see how we could have already spent all of the budget allotted. woodenshoemanHoosierfan and BannerVille 2 Quote

Some would rather lose a close game to a national brand team like Duke then actual win a game close game where IU looks bad against a team like Northwestern. Been that way for a while for some people. The reality is doesn’t matter how IU is perceived next year coach DeVries is going to have to win. He could have gotten the top 12 transfer portal guys this year or he could have gotten 200-212 ranked transfer guys in the portal and his expectation is going to be the same. Win. Optics would look better for some with choice 1 however expectations would be no different the door number 2. Unimpressed or impressed with what he has done doesn’t matter just got to sit back and see if this is the year IU claws its way back to where people want it to be I simply want to start by regularly beating Northwestern. And Nebraska for that matter. :) Uspshoosier 1 Quote

I don't think guys like Miles, Dorn, Enright, Drake, etc went from making virtually $0 last year to making close to $600k overnight. I also don't buy that Gabe Cupps is making $600k next year. I would guess that end of rotation/bench guys at P5 schools are making between $150-300k. Most of this NIL valuation talk is perpetuated by agents to try and prop up their other clients. Quote

Fair enough that agents are propping up numbers but, to my point, we didn't go and get just 'end of the bench' guys. Conerway and Alexis are both top-100 transfers per 247 as an example. We got a lot of guys who showed meaningful production, who all likely could command reasonable NIL money, so seeing that we could have already spent $10m+ isn't that difficult. thebigweave 1 Quote

We've signed 11 guys, there is always going to be the end of the bench...on every team. I don't think we're paying Drake, Enright, etc anywhere close to the perceived "market value" based on a rumor of what Cupps is making. Quote

The picture isn't some sort of clue I don't think, all the IU burners have been using pictures/GIFs of dogs when we they hear good portal news. Don't ask me why lol its become a thing for some reason. Sure, but then you don't seem to be understanding the basic math that I laid out. If we have 8 guys left to sign, and $4.5m of budget left, that means the AVERAGE for each guy is just north of $500k. But guys like Conerway, Alexis, Dorn etc. are likely getting paid more than that. That leaves a smaller amount, probably in that $150k-$300k range that you mentioned, for guys like Drake, Enright, etc. Example: Tucker DeVries - $2m Lamar Wilkerson - $2m Reed Bailey - $1.5m Conerway - $1m Alexis - $800k Harris - $700k Dorn - $700k Miles - $200k Drake - $200k Enright - $200k Sisley - $150k Goode - ???? The above would put us at $9.45m. I just ordered the new transfers in by on3 rankings for the top-7. thebigweave 1 Quote
