This is just 1 of many red flags which should have excluded him from being hired in the first place. He didn't change at all from his time in the NBA.

Mike Bibby could always hire Woody on his staff at Sac State could fill the Armond “sleepy” Hill role nicely !

The route to probably go is to get 3 stars with a higher ceiling and hope you can keep them multiple years.

Actually, change that to a few 3-stars and lower 4-stars, and you've basically got Purdue's formula.

It may not have worked very well in the tourney, but it works like gangbusters during the regular season for them.

I guess the question is, will it continue to work given the increased player movement each year?

I think you gotta be portal heavy these days.  It just makes too much sense.

Hurley likely bucking for a nice raise and extension from UConn.

The Denver smoke around Hurley is entirely agent driven and in no way gonna happen. Malone is a jersey guy from Seton Hall prep. No way he’s going to join an org that axed a guy who won a championship not so long ago. He’s a CBB guy through and through IMO. It would have to be a northeast NBA franchise for him to seriously entertain the move IMO.

Can’t imagine you’re not right. Everything about that guy screams college lifer. But just as a matter of due diligence, if someone calls and says, “hey, we’ve got the best player in the world and our city is objectively awesome to live in, let’s talk”, you probably grant them the courtesy.

If he didn't go to the Lakers last year, I don't see him going to Denver. Also his act won't work in the NBA

I agree that if he turned down one of the two premiere franchises in basketball off back to back championships, he’s not going to Denver. Especially after they fired a championship winning coach who he most likely knows well since they’re from the same general area. Wouldn’t call it “his act” but I do agree his way would never be viable in the NBA. He’s a very good basketball coach, what makes him great is his ability to motivate and challenge guys. Grown men aren’t going to go for that, at least not for long.

As you said up thread, it’s gonna be NYK, PHI, or BOS, throw in BKN if he goes to the NBA.

Boston is all set. PHI’s problems this year are not coach-driven. BKN wouldn’t hire a glitzy coach at this point in the success cycle.

But if you want Hurley to leave this summer, it starts with the knicks losing in the first round or something.

If the Knicks lose in the 1st or 2nd round, I could see that job opening. I'd guess Michael Malone would be the obvious choice, but you never know, could be a spot for Hurley.

Ehhh... I disagree. Hurley has the ego to try a jump like that. Plus, he's accomplished A LOT in CBB already.

I have no doubt Hurley someday would like to try his hand at the NBA. But I think it’s going to have to be in the northeast for family reasons. If he wanted to go that badly, after repeat championships is a great time. I think after talking so much about 3peating, unless it’s like the Knicks, he’s going to want to win another championship in college before he tries that. JMO but i think he will be a UConn lifer, maybe retire there when he’s 60ish.

I agree with the NE thing.... but if not the NE, Denver, Spurs would be at the top of the next list, IMO.

It's not like this is 2005 Denver, though. He gets the best player in the world.

After reading that, LOL at those that thought MW was going to actually change to the college b-ball staple of guard oriented small ball after lacking an All American big.
