Realistic shortlist:

1) Isiah Thomas

2) Randy Wittman

3) Keith Smart

And, of course, you give Steve Alford a call…

As I said, I hope I’m wrong, but there’s zero precedent of someone going from NBA HC to NBA GM (of the Boston Celtics no less) and then back to CBB. It’s such an absurd career arch I just don’t see it.

Kind of like going from Butler HC to the HC of the Boston Celtics?

Roughly speaking, do you think it's a 5% chance Stevens comes, or more like a 50-50 chance? In other words, is this more of a theoretical, but still unlikely, possibility? Or is there is a real chance he comes home?

Yes.

Quinn Buckner... was fired with four years left on his contract with the Dallas Mavericks, who said he couldn't lead or teach.

...Buckner, whose team had a 13-69 record, the worst in the NBA. It was marked by complaints from the team's best players _ rookie Jamal Mashburn, Jim Jackson and Derek Harper, who later was traded to the New York Knicks.

Mavericks owner Donald Carter said Buckner "burned bridges."

Buckner said, "We had a great run. It was fun and I'm sorry it didn't work out. It was a great experience."

Quinn knows bbal folks. He got us a king.

The man can coach,” Buckner said. "He’s not soft-spoken then. He’s very animated. He’s engaged in the game and with his players. And the official occasionally gets in the way. So he deals with that, as well.”

Buckner knows Woodson about as well as anyone. Their paths crossed at IU, only briefly, when Buckner was a senior on his way out, and Woodson was a recruit on his way into Bob Knight’s program. Early in his NBA career, Buckner would check back on IU and watch Woodson play.

Moving upward off two final four runs? No, I don’t see that as comparable as going from winning an NBA Championship as general manager of the Celtics backwards to be college coach in what has become a ridiculous situation with NIL and transfers. For the most part, dudes that can, are running from college coaching, not going back to it. Again, to reiterate for the third time, I hope I’m wrong, but Brad Stevens is not coaching in college again for any dollar amount, IMO

I think you are right but he isn’t 70 years old and used to doing his recruiting and roster management the same way for 40 years like some of the recent coaches that have called it quits over the current state of the game.

He’s still young and the college game is getting closer and closer to the nba in a lot of ways so it’s not quite the jump for him

If he was 70 and no one wanted him in the league I’d actually think our chances were better a la Bill Belichek lol
