You posted the EXACT SAME THING last year.

It’s either extreme pessimism or ‘reverse jinx’.

Probably both. But I wouldn't have been surprised last year. Just like I wasn't surprised about losing streaks in 2022 or 2019 or 2014 or any other time. This team fits the mold of those teams quite a bit. 2014 seems all too familiar.

I posted in another thread about how weird the first 8 games of our 2024 schedule is. 4 winnable games and 4 where we’ll be favored to lose. Since then the 4 winnable games look tougher, and the 4 hard games haven’t gotten any easier…although Iowa isn’t looking great these days but stylistically they present problems for us.

Going 4-4 over that stretch would be solid. Winning tomorrow night would be a nice step towards that.

The tweet shows a fundamental misunderstanding of Pom.

Exactly. KP has us going 2-6 (or technically, 2.06-5.94) in those eight games….with under an 18% chance of losing all 7 of the games we are underdogs.

They actually have it at 2.56-5.44;  the tweet cuts off the last game, which is Iowa.  Pom has that game as a 50% chance of IU winning.

So far nothing really impressive to me from Ohio State, Wisconsin, Rutgers, or Iowa. All winnable.

Wisconsin has a sneaky good resume so far.  Their style just makes every game close.    Road win at Sparty, home win over Marquette and Neutral wins over Virginia and SMU

And here we go! Note the dates of the two quoted posts.

358 days ago after an 1-3 conference start, you projected our conference record was going to be 1-7 after eight games. This year it's 1-7 for the next eight after a 2-0 start in conference.

Not that it couldn't happen (anything is possible), but the chances of this happening are extremely low (as they were last year) and this is a window into pessimistic bias.

For what it's worth, after eight conference games last year we ended up at 4-4 on our way to a 12-8 overall conference record.

Finally, while it is fun to speculate, as Bill Parcells once famously said, "You are what your record says you are." And right now our conference record says we are 2-0, which is good to see.

I mean after the few games we had last season... Yea 1-5 looked right. And I believe we struggled to get that Minnesota win last year.
