How far away is IUBB from being elite again?

Arkansas is on a path under Musselman to be considered Elite.  Happened almost immediately. Recruiting and on court results are at that level.

Alabama  less so, but could be working towards that based on recruiting results.

I think to truly be considered Elite you have to post repetitive results across different teams.  So we will see, but they are off to a quick start and if they keep it up and improve, then absolutely.

Min 1 National Championship is required in my mind.

If IU was serious about being elite, they would take the opportunity to leverage gear to make $$ and entice recruits to come and play here. IU then takes that money and uses it to fund, NIL, New Practice Facility, you name it.... Also I'm not saying there was a quarter zip and I didn't like it, I'm saying I found 0 quarter zips... Come to NYC and you'll see how quickly IU is out of touch with fashion.

Yeah, Arkansas and Arizona probably the best case descriptions. I agree Alabama, maybe not but that’s a historically marginal program and what Oats has done with them so quickly makes me think of them.

UCLA, like UNC, Kansas, Duke should return to prominence more easily because everything else is in place.  That’s where the frustrations come in. Indiana was/is a blue blood. The same way we expect these other teams to figure it out quickly should also be the case at Indiana.  We aren’t Alabama, D1 U, etc.  Our pathway shouldn’t have been as hard.

Arizona was nothing until Lute Olson got there in the early 80's and have been  pretty good since then.

There's the problem, we gotta get someone on those 1/4 zips asap!

Poke fun all you want. IU’s fashion and swag are out of touch with elite level programs. That incremental revenue could be used to fund a lot of things, including getting top talent to IU.

1. The cut or "Fit" is out of touch with the current styles. At one point IU was rocking sleeveless style where the current trend was the spaghetti tank

2. The stars on the back just make the uniform look dumpy

3. The Adidas logo breaking up the piping makes the uniform look non symmetrical

4. Why do we have 0 alternate uniforms????

5. Why do we have 0 collabs? IU Could easily get a collab with Aimé Leon Dore, Noah, or Kidsuper

6. Where's the script Indiana Jersey?

7. What about a throwback Cream colored Jersey?

8. Look at the IU shop, I dare you to find the powder blue quarter zips, or orange shirts the football teams wear?...

9. We talk a lot about IUFB... Wheres the cross-collab LEO jerseys?

10. Why is there no LEO swag available in the shop? I couldn't even fid a shirt. I'd buy a LEO skull cap or bandana... NOPE don't exist outside of the players.

11. Why can't we have a fun Bison Mascot on an alternate uniform and the side of the pants like Kansas and the JayHawk?

12. Does IU not get a portion of sales from IU Adidas merch? I tried to buy a quarter zip on the shop for christmas and couldn't find anything. I checked purdue and they have 9! thats 9 pages of swag with like 6 quarterzips to choose from.

13. I was at the Arizona game and almost all of the swag was from the ancillary shirt companies like homefield, or shirts with the Bison.. Why is IU not capitalizing on that?

14. My buddy played D1 tennis and said that their swag was night an Day to IU's...

15. Even if Nike pays $3m less on a contract.... Don't we receive a portion of the sales... wouldn't 9 pages of Nike IU swag make up the difference there?

Who gives a rats @$$ Bout anything in this post. If a recruit picks a school just because of swag then I don't want him here

Yeah man, idk what to tell you lol. Over half of your 15 points are either flat out wrong or so subjective that it has no correlation to the program.

The money IU makes on gear also has ZERO bearing on NIL. You’re better off letting Homefield, etc. make the money and hoping they run some sort of NIL program.

You’re part of the problem… you’re a fan trying to stay in the 1970’s. Probably yelling at the clouds saying “we should not allow last names on our jerseys”

Like I said if a recruit picks a school fur swag then I don't want him here.  Sorry to burst it to you but the only thing keeping IU relevant are us older fans who have actually seen IU be elite.  After we are gone the big time following probably will dwindle because the newer fans haven't seen success.

I’m a younger fan, and you’re not what’s keeping IU relevant. And I t’s that attitude and mindset of “don’t change a thing” which is what’s keeping us back. I firmly believe we’ll never win another championship until IU gets with the times. We are still in the 70’s, everyone else is in 2022…

Some of your post I could actually go along with.  Update the cut, add an alternate or throwback, etc.

May not be many younger people that get the bison association to IU.  And I have a feeling that on court performance has more to do with recruiting than the availability of powder blue 1/4 zips.

It was going away from what made IU great is the problem and they finally brought back a person who knows what it takes to be successful at IU .

So my argument is how you do anything is how you do everything…. IU should take all aspects of the program seriously…. If IU actually ran the swag portion of its program like Ralph Lauren or Aimé Leon Dore and leveraged it to be elite, that implies that they are taking all aspects of its program elite…. It’s like special teams in football, elite teams have great Special teams…. Plus if IU generated $1M more per year in sales, each year that money could be used to get an elite wing, that then could make shots against Kansas.

A system team like Painter, or Wisconsin, or

Wisconsin doesn’t have an offensive system anymore. They spread, pnr and kick like everyone else. And Purdue forces it into the paint more than we do, but their objective is awfully close to ours under woody. But they defend and knock sown shots.

That isn't true, just look at Wright's first 6-7 years and you don't see elite.

I’m not going to argue semantics, but Wright has elite players early on. Had success. Just cause it took them a while to win a title doesn’t mean they weren’t elite. They were a force to be reckoned with no later than year 4.

Yes but PU has swag, sponsored by Carhartt and Muck boots. That is why they are ranked #1.

Kind of reminds me of a book I read years ago, about how Disney World became Disney World. Short version: it didn't happen by cutting corners or people saying "eh, good enough."

The uniform topic seems to pop up a few times each season, and it always seems to draw the same predictable responses. I wish we'd go back to the Crean-era uniforms. The ones we have now are just...bleh.

The problem here, of course, is that you've got a fanbase that will fight tooth and nail to keep things the way they are. When the Big Ten mandated we put its logo on the court, we had fans who started an online petition to have it removed, saying it "ruined the purity of our sacred court." Then there was the outrage when Assembly Hall added Simon-Skjodt to its name, and another online petition (that went nowhere) for that. I could totally see new uniforms leading to a slew of angry letters (older fans who don't do social media) complaining about the new threads, saying things like "Bobby's teams didn't need fancy uniforms to win games, " etc.

The answer to being elite is the same for IU as everyone else. You’re the right coach away. Very few bad programs can sustain bad coaches for more than a couple years.

A great coach can win anywhere that’s a major or upper mid-major conference.

Put Brad Stevens or Billy Donavan at IU and they’re back among the “elite” in 2-4 years. Nothing in college basketball takes more than 4 years. Bob Knight, Jim Calhoun, Rick Pitino, etc… didn’t need to slowly hit any multi-year steps to become elite. They just came in, built their teams and kicked @$$.
