I'm too young to remember watching this but I have never seen pictures or videos with the 3-point line closer than the top of the key. That would be pretty crazy if it was that close.

It just seems to me that it was a trial and it was inside the top of the key but I’ve been wrong before and 40 years ago has definitely clogged my memory!!!

Several conferences had versions of a 3-pt line that they used in the 1982-83 season, mostly in conference play.

It was rumored that the shot clock and 3-pt shot were coming soon. The clock arrived in 1985-86 and 3-pt arc a year later.
