IUBB Starting Lineup

Recommended Posts

Galloway can't start at shooting guard because, unfortunately, he can't shoot anything but a layup. Also, it appears he is now the backup point guard. Bates may have demonstrated he is ready to start at shooting guard. Whomever starts at shooting guard has to be able to make a 3-point shot and that isn't Trey Galloway.

Process of elimination favors Bates.

Anthony Leal now in the on deck circle.

We'll probably get a starting lineup of X, Gallo, Kopp, Race, and Trayce. We'll be utterly shocked when Gabe Brown goes for 30 in the first half against Kopp.

I guess two quick fouls on Kopp saved us from Brown putting up 30 in the first half. Can Kopp hang with old man Davison next week?

I think the classification of shooting guard, small forward, etc. is mostly gone in favor of point guard, "five", and three varying sizes of wings. We do need another wing that can consistently hit from outside. In a perfect world, neither P Stew or Kopp would have to start because we had more talent. Unfortunately, the players we hyped as "shooters" over the summer aren't quite what we have on the floor today. I'm hesitant to start Bates after one above average game (although in that one game he eclipsed Kopp for double figure games in the Big 1.o this season). It might be worth a try though.

I do like Gallo's float game. He should be on the weak side with XJ at the top and a shooter going strong side. Gallo could absolutely take advantage of angles on ball reversals.

That’s just it, Bates has had 1 game and the rest have been a mixed bag with a lot of inconsistency.

I doubt that CMW will start him based off of what he has done with the starting lineup all year and Bates last game performance but what a major lift for his confidence if CMW were to start him.

i actually would like for Bates to start over Kopp!  Kopp has brought nothing to the table, definitely not what we were expecting.  Maybe he so wrapped up in podcast, he hasn’t concentrated on his game!

Their is more to the game than shooting.  Their are fundamentals and defense. Trey should be starting and he should be playing 30 minutes.  We are a better team with Trey Galloway on the floor period end of story.

Galloway has added a mid-range game too, that’s not a layup.

I think Bates will eventually start but he won’t start base off a 1 game performance.

Yes, of course. But IU is losing primarily because of poor shooting. The last three games we have lost, we average less than 35% from the field and 23% from 3-point range. It is difficult to beat a team that is any good shooting at that rate. IU can't keep repeating the same offense and expect better results. We need to increase our chances of scoring by starting players who can shoot and score. Galloway has had a couple of games where he has scored (mostly off of drives) but he is not a good shooter.  The defense has backed off of him when he is at long range and he still misses the wide open shots. Kopp and Stewart are decent shooters but they don't do much to get open shots. Bates presents a threat both driving and shooting. He still takes bad shots but at least he adds movement to the offense with the threat of scoring from multiple spots on the court. I'm not saying don't play Galloway as he obviously adds energy, defense, and movement. But he shouldn't be a 3-point option because he will make very few of them.

I would like to try:

1  XJ

2  Bates

3  Galloway

4  Thompson

5  TJD

This was going to be my lineup as well. I’m not sure it works without a threat from the outside. Maybe put Stewart or Kopp back in lineup just not at the same time. I’d probably bring Bates off the bench if Galloway gets the nod.

This probably belongs here as much as anywhere.  The below article talks about the issues and concerns that most everyone has on our lack of offensive efficiency, which should lead to a lineup change.

Now it is up to CMW to recognize and make that change.  Will he or will he still be too stubborn to make the changes necessary?

Yeah, I'd start

TJD

Race

Galloway

Stewart

X

for the outside shooting, and with Galloway I think Stewart gets more shots -- we need him shooting, dude can drill it and when he does it opens the floor.

I am big on Bates, but he hasn't been consistent, still a frosh who looked like he hit the frosh wall for several games, and imo we need a real, consistent, deep shooter on the floor.
