Illinois had more talent, had more toughness than we did today. 
 
X was the only one who seemed to care in the 2nd half. 
 
The strategy of hoping TJD could take Cockburn one on one was a curious one. 
 
I’m glad he benched the starters the last 6 minutes. NW is winnable this week.

I think X is becoming the only leader on this team and has been playing great lately. He is becoming the most important player on the team.

TJD needs to get things in order, they were giving him a 15 foot shot the entire game that he wouldn't even look at taking a shot and decided he wanted to try to bully ball Kofi which he lost every time.

Race has looked off the past couple of games and we are not getting the hustle plays out of him that we are used to. Durr did his job today and should honestly be getting more minutes a long side TJD.

Have to find way to get Kopp and Stewart more looks when they are in the game and I find it odd that they play most of the game but are out when it comes to crunch time. We should be starting player that we trust to be in the game at crunch time.

Feel decent with @NW because they don't have a dominant big that will take TJD out of his game. Edey/Williamson, Dickinson, and Cockburn are all bad matchups for TJD because they're his size or bigger.

I liked how the team fought in the first half with TJD on the bench but didn't like how we folded in the second half with him on the court. He wanted nothing to do with defending or attacking Cockburn.

I guess we have to get a few more on the road since we haven't really been able to defend home court like we thought we would. Ill got going in this one when we left them WIDE OPEN in the second half. Our crowd did a solid job defending them for a few shots then they took it the next level and blew us out.

Illinois is simply a better team. The reason they are better is they have players who can shoot and IU does not.  You are not going to win many games shooting 35% including 23% from 3-point range. IU took a lot of really bad, forced shots in the 2nd half. The 2nd half game plan of running the ball through TJD wasn't going to work. TJD just doesn't play well against bigger players and so he turned the ball over and took a bunch of shots he rarely makes. As he did in the game against Purdue, Durr did a reasonably good job guarding the big man.  But Durr got into foul trouble so that put TJD back on Cockburn who overpowered him. Indiana needs to defeat all the teams below them in the conference standings (i.e., Northwestern, Minnesota & Rutgers) if they want to make the NCAA tournament. It seems unlikely IU will beat any one of Michigan State, Ohio State or Purdue on the road.

We don't have room for playing without e and e. When our e drops things like what happened in the second half are almost guaranteed. Ill has too much firepower for us to go through the motions.

I mean they basically put Trayce to sleep. We're good when things are going well but when it doesn't or gets difficult..

I do still like X's e and e while bringing it every game. He's kind of emerging as a leader.

It would have been weak if they beat us by a few but when you do what they did in the second half you can write whatever you want. I would say it would fire up our team but it might actually put them to sleep, sans X and maybe Race.

I only got to watch sparingly from my phone and didn’t see much but 16 mins and zero shot attempts for Kopp! This is getting beyond ridiculous with him starting. Not one shot! And sorry guys this was the first game I have had to miss this year, so you can blame me I guess!

Illinois is a hated rival. I don't think out guys matched that level of play to indicate that so we lost. Bigger than that though I felt the game plan was a failure. Trayce isn't ready for the NBA and if any scouts out there think he is might want to see how exposed he gets by anyone with a NBA caliber frame. Needs a shot and more mucle to get to the next level. For sure one of the 2 at the best

I still can't understand why anyone thought Trayce was NBA material. Maybe he just hasn't developed like some thought he would? Just a very one-dimensional player who can't shoot. 

 

If we were a legit Final Four contender, we'd have a 7 footer starting at center and he'd be playing the 4. Maybe that would have forced him to develop his game a bit more? IU basketball for the past ~5 years has been undersized/poorly constructed rosters of guys playing out of position.

This is Illinois and Purdue’s big year.

They both are likely to lose all of their uniquely good players: Ivey, TWilliams, Edey (maybe)… Kofi, Frazier, DWilliams.
