Race is very 1 dimensional offensively. Can he handle the ball a little, sure but it’s not like that is a highlight of his.
to say that he has finally started to hit his 3 pointers is so not true. If you are saying 22% is good or something I guess we will have to disagree. Maybe you mean compared to his 20% from last year?

I believe it was because he hit a few against a turrlbe Maryland team. Can he hit 3s? Yes. Can he hit 3s consistently enough to make teams defend him out to the arc? No.

Illinois has some talent and they've played well but I'm not sure they're Final 4 good. I'd probably put them in the next group down from Final 4 (they're not Gonzaga, Auburn, Arizona, puke, etc.). The biggest thing yesterday was our best player walked onto the court to start the game knowing he was defeated. We don't have the leeway to just show up to games in the Big 1.o. We have had issues putting it together for a full 40 minutes, many teams have this issue. However, we have issues with e and e. E and e should be a baseline that is established early on. We haven't done that.

Sure but we'll talk it up like we're not one dimensional, we got the players we wanted and/or needed and the cycle will continue. We'll hype up the development that hasn't really been shown here for forever. I guess Woody calling out Trayce about his jump shot will be interesting to see how that plays out. I'm guessing he'll continue to only work in the post.

He will because his jump shot is not good. I don’t want him shooting jump shots. That said, stagger play with him and Race so they each play 30 mins but play to gather as little as possible and put players in with them that compliment them.

same reason Purdue doesn’t play Eddey and Williams together, they are similar players

Your last statement is correct; however, I think Race is more than 1 dimensional offensively and I believe he is just scratching the surface offensively.  He good at the basketball, has hit some mid-range shots and has finally started to hit 3 pointers, although he didn’t last game but even the best shooters may come up empty on occasion.  Also, he handles the ball decent, especially when he gets a rebound on the defensive end and starts a fast break on many occasions.  TJD is more 1 dimensional but Race is not, IMO.

Well he needs to get poison ivy and scratch like heck then . Cause his time is about up at IU.

We would actually need to move on offense and do things we're not accustomed to doing for that to work. I guess we'll continue to jam that square peg into the round hole hoping we can finish midpack of the conference and make it into the tourney.

He had hit 5-6 in the 3 games before yesterday

His 22% is the entire season but he has shot it better lately but I think he’s getting better.  We can agree to disagree!

He had two Big 1.o games where he shot well from deep, 2-2 in both comfortable wins against PSU and Maryland. The rest of the Big 1.o season he's 2-20. In 12 Big 1.o games, he's hit at least 1 three point shot in 4 games (2 of those games were against PSU). He has hit at least one in 3 of the last 4 games (0-3 yesterday) for ~45% BUT.. don't go back any further than that it gets pretty ugly.

5-8 (which is a very respectable percentage for any player) in the 3 games before yesterday, according to ESPN/Sports Reference. He had 2 fantastic games but outside of that hasn't been a threat from deep.

I guess. He’s right on his career average at 22% so 4 years says that’s pretty much what he is, a pretty poor 3 point shooter. Yes, he will have a few makes but it’s not a trend when 4 years says otherwise

This roster is pretty much maxed out talent wise. The only guy getting minutes now who still has a high ceiling is Bates. Still probably a tourney team and an improvement over the last 5 years. Need an infusion of talent especially guards and wings.

Definitely agree we need an infusion of talent at the guard and wing positions. Hopefully, we could keep or replace the talent we have in the interior. Flip flopping talent like we've done in the past won't advance the program that much. That appears what will be happening next season and that talent at the guard and wing spots will be mostly young.

I think it’s just really poorly utlilized. There are lineups that could work. There are rotations that could work. There are ways to get the most out of each player and rotation but we just dont

With props to Herb Brooks/Kurt Russell: "Talented teams fail because they rely soley on the individual's talent.  Great teams win because they take that talent and use it inside a system that's designed for the betterment of the team."

Right now we lack both talent and a system for the talent we have, on offense at least.

No different rotation or alternative lineup would have made any difference Saturday. The team shot 35%, 23% from 3-point range. Illinois trampled over everyone. This is a team with no real shooters and that doesn't get us far against good teams. TJD is talented but he has serious limitations. Race usually does well when TJD is taking the defense away from him. Otherwise, he plays hard but is merely an OK player. Xavier is an average point guard who sometimes sparkles but often not. It goes down from there. Bates can't play defense and his shooting has been awful. Galloway can't shoot anything but a layup. Stewart and Kopp contribute very little.  We would have lost to Purdue had Rob Phinisee not had a career game. Woodson had only one real recruit (Bates).  It is what it is and there is no use in hoping the team will somehow compete at a higher level than they have. The truth is Woodson has the team overachieving with victories over Purdue and Ohio State.

Not really sure where else to send this since the Northwestern game thread hasn’t been created yet but does anyone know of any good bars around Welsh Ryan Arena to stop by before the game? Gonna have some time to kill between 6 and 8 pm tip off

Bat 17 is solid. Good burgers/sandwiches and a large selection of beers. Celtic Knot public house is good too. Neither are really walking distance but traffic has never been a problem whenever I’ve went. There is one bar I know of (Ten Mile House) within walking distance but it was more upscale dining than a bar.
