Interesting study about timing of coffee consumption and health.  Thanks for posting the link.

In reading through the study, I had questions about variables, sample size, source of funding, bias, peer reviews and who did the study.  The study included answers to most of those questions in the 'Limitations' paragraph.

Most importantly, I drink about 3 cups of coffee before and during breakfast.  But, while working, many years ago...I would drink a little in the afternoon, too.

As an aside, I just got an Encore Baratza grinder and it is a step up for us over the simple Burr.  I've been varying the grind setting and it is on 20 at this point.  Seems slightly coarse, but at 17 the coffee tasted 'dusty'.  That might be due to the fine grinds.  It also could be the Coffiend Artisian Blend Beans from Fresh Roasted Coffee LLC in PA.  Recently we had Columbian Organic and Costa Rica Tarrazu.  All are medium roasts on 12/21.

My favorite so far of those three is the Columbian Organic.  But some of the tasting was before we were using the Baratza.  It seems to make a difference.  And we are adjusting the amount of beans per cup.  Taking notes in a coffee tasting journal.  Previously, was using a subjective 5* max rating.  Using a Cuisinart drip to brew.  Just moved the Cuisinart to be right next to us at the breakfast table in order to keep the 2nd cup warm in the pot.

I have determined that if I drink coffee with my famous pecan/vanilla waffles with some maple syrup...then almost any coffee gets overwhelmed.

A suggestion; instead of that Cuisinart get a Techovorm Moccamaster for your drip - the difference in taste is really notable. $300 new - $150ish used on Facebook Marketplace.

Why recommend the Techovorm Moccamaster?  How is it significantly different/better?  And why not an alternative brewer?  (Nevermind...just read a really good evaluation/review.)

Can I borrow $150 until my brother straightens up?  He's a hunchback.

That or until IU wins the 6th NC Banner...

If I was going to spend that kind of money...I would also get a really cute maid with a great personality to brew it for me.  But then again, how could I sell that to my wife?  Hmm...could I borrow a little more from you.  Should I start a Go Fund Me?

By the way, I also got a scale that I will start using.

  1. It's the 'solid as a rock/tried and true' best option for non-espresso/drip brewing. Looks really nice too.
  2. It keeps water temperature consistently accurate and soaks the grounds much more evenly, which matters a ton.
  3. French press is a cheaper excellent alternative if you don't mind a little silt in the bottom of the cup. Breville Precision for drip is good. For you it sounds like a thermal carafe is in order - makes the second cup way better than a heating plate would.
  4. No.
  5. That's unfortunate. Maybe he can work for the Notre Dame tourism board.
  6. That may be one long-@$$ wait. I'd spend the coffee brewer money sooner than that.
  7. If that can be done for $200 bucks? Yes!
  8. The cute maid will keep you from constantly pestering her.
  9. No.
  10. Sure, but please do not send me the link to it.

You snobs!

December 2021, Bavaria, Munich: The lettering McCafé can be seen on a cup being filled with a latte macchiato in a branch of the McDonald's fast food...

Ummm .. excuse me sir:

  1. McRonald's coffee doesn't suck, especially with the seniors' discount.
  2. That picture, on the other hand, appears to be of an espresso from McDonald's, which
    • Clearly will completely suck, and
    • Is a bit of a fancy-pants play, especially when one is wolfing down Egg McMuffins and pre-frozen hash browns.
