Received an Alabama offer yesterday.

Like that fit a lot. Not nearly as much as this fit, of course. But, super skilled 6’10” kids better be a fit anywhere unless the coach is an idiot.

Class of 2024 forward William Jobe will be visiting #iubb for the home game on Nov. 12, I'm told.

That’s awesome (even if it’s the Northern Illinois game …lol). Should have a lot of family around with a lot of IU love and memories to give the young man context.

I remember IUFB RB Alex Smith from Brookville—he was a real talent and still ranks as an all-time Hoosier RB. Guessing that ASmith and papa Jobe are about the same era.

This recruit is one to watch as a serious IU target.

I mean...c'mon!   Just saying, this young man has hit 6'9", is a top tier recruit, and grew up with THIS as his favorite sweatshirt:

Do you think he can relate to Woody, who also grew up dreaming of playing for IU?

Ya know, if I wasn’t already feeling ancient this picture would’ve done the job.

I really like this kid. If he starts putting on a little weight he could be a very nice player by the time he makes it to college.

I think that’s key to remember here..he may look like a twig and young in the face now, but he has 3 years to fill out. Hopefully his school has a good lifting program. I know many hear probably played HS ball too. When I was a freshman I was 6’2” and 157 lbs. after 3 years in a good weight program I graduated at 6’3” 190 lbs…there’s a good chance he fills out and the skill he has will be a great combination.

Imagine us waiting for players like Durant to finally be good because they put on weight… never understood these types of evaluations of kids.

I didn’t say IU should wait. I wasn’t saying that at all. I’m just saying he’s going to need more weight to really succeed in college. Especially as a 4 or 5 in the B1G.

There are players that have a thin, wiry frame and maybe they fill out, maybe they don’t but allowing natural progression to occur is important. Trying to pack on weight on a body that isn’t natural for can do more harm than good.

Some of the best players ever were super thin and I think that was an asset - more weight could have slowed them down, been tough on their joints

I’m well aware. Guys have to put on the right kind of weight. I’m not saying he has to get to 250. I’m just saying he has to gain some muscle or he will get pushed around and that’s a fact.

Just for the sake of conversation if for no other reason then I am delayed at the airport, but one could also say, if he can improve his handles and quickness, he could make a case to play the 3 and have a ton more upside as a 6’9” 3 than a beefier 4 or 5

It’s possible he could. He’s got to gain about 25- 30 pounds over the next couple of years regardless of position. I’m currently coaching a kid that’s 6’7 and he’s got the same problem. He’ll be a wing by the time he graduates but he gets pushed around at the high school level. Jobe will have a similar problem if he doesn’t add strength which I’m sure he will.

If you have watched Gonzaga and Chet Holmgren is rail thin.  At least last night he struggled with playing bigger and stronger players

And Holmgren has 25 pounds on Jobe.
