If you read all the comments on that link they are literally talking about how VT bama and us are in contention

They're not confident enough to go out on any weaker limbs?  Yes, Indiana, Virginia Tech, and Alabama are three of the top contenders...hence the announcement of his short list of finalists, which included all three of those schools.

That's like saying, "I'm not sure who will win the Presidential race, but I believe the Democratic candidate and the Republican candidate are in contention".

It makes you wish we had folks here with such insider information, doesn't it?

Obviously, no new information here, but reading this fan base just swarming the replies of these things, to the point that you need to actively seek out someone from elsewhere, is always a sight to see.

I find this encouraging!

Jake Weingarten is legit, and apparently thinks that VT has already found their big man for 2022:

Weingarten is a really good follow. Kind of doubt that Wessler and Clowney are an either/or proposition, but would be really, really happy to be wrong.
Aside: Young visiting Jackson at this point, who has a spectacular offer list and no current Va Tech offer, is about as unsubtle an effort to leverage Rodney Rice as it could possibly be. Rice’s people are probably either laughing out loud or annoyed by the ham handedness.

The Virginia Tech insiders discuss Clowney today on this free 247 VT board. Interesting that Clowney does not follow Virginia Tech basketball on social media yet he follows quite a few IU players, coaches, recruits and the official IU basketball accounts on twitter and instagram. I guess we will find out soon if that means anything.

The Va Tech stuff is, I think, tied to 2 things: 1) Va Tech was Clowney’s 1st high major offer, and that’s a really good offer. It’s not like he was offered by BC. 2) Mike Young has a relationship of some duration with Thomas Ryan, the Dorman HC, and successfully recruited Dorman kids when he was at Wofford. He knows the area and the culture. Ordinarily, those are pretty compelling factors, at least as a starting point. But then, Clowney goes to Bloomington and sees that whole show, the staff, the campus, the facilities, the basketball-first mentality, the rockstar status and the fan support, and that’s just a freaking eye-opener for some under the radar kid from South Carolina. It’s the difference between shooting a bullet and throwing it. If it didn’t spook him or the family, and it sure doesn’t seem that way, that’s a lot to say no to.

AND...in a minor role of the dice, the IU staff hooked up the Clowney family with the official visit by the Banks family, and they immediately hit it off, adding an element of comfort to the shock of visiting a big time program in an unfamiliar place.

The HS coach likes VT, and AAU coach likes IU is what I am told.  FWIW, Clowney really emerged during his AAU season.

It’s going to be really interesting to see how many under the radar kids emerge from the ‘22 class and outperform their rankings after being so much harder for coaches to watch up close and interact with for basically 18 mos. Guessing there will be a much higher rate of mis-evaluations and kids just not fitting a schools’ culture than most years. From the contact you’ve had, do coaches seem as comfortable with their evals of this class at they have been in the past?

Definitely not as comfortable.  They basically missed an entire year plus watching this class.
