If this team doesn't make the tournament and FAU makes the sweet sixteen or better, does Dolson make a change and go after Dusty May?

Lord I would hope so. As Kentuckysucks pointed out Woody would need a pay day but that does not seem to be a barrier whatsoever the way buyouts are structured.

So with the news of IUBB having benign talks of life after Coach Woodson, it's worth asking from those who'd know: Is Woodson flirting with the idea of retirement, or is this strictly others talking about the what's to come after him? @Chris007

I'm sure he'd be (unfortunately) the #1 candidate.

This thread would reach 1500 pages as we'd simply be looking for another coach in 2027/2028

It also would not be a problem because Dusty May's buyout is so, so low, and because Dusty May would make the same, or potentially a little less than Woody.

If that scenario happened Dusty would have a F4 and a S16 under his belt compared to one E8 and runner up appearance from another "preferred" candidate

I'd love hearing of May (or any coach) taking a lesser guarantee and having a heavily incentivized contract that rewards winning (20 games, B1G, BTT, S16, FF, etc)

We forgetting Chris Beard lost in the national championship game in overtime?

I did forget he lost in the championship at one of his many recent stops. So a F4 and S16 v runner up and E8... neither screams Archie Miller to me. But I agree Dusty needs to show more before we go all in on him

Dusty May has had 1, possibly 2 successful years at a mid-major depending on how this year plays out. Chris Beard has taken 3 different P5 programs to the tournament and done it in a 4 year period.

There's zero comparison between the two. One is widely considered to be the best coach in college basketball while the other is a hot up and comer who may or may not make it at the next level when given a chance.

Wait ... you're a fan of hiring Chris Beard? Geez, I didn't realize that.

;)

I'm a fan of common sense. There's two hires that suggests IU is serious about winning.

1. Chris Beard

2. Bruce Pearl

Anything else is taking the lazy way out and the definition of insanity.

My dream list I guess if that's what you wanna call it... For now..

1. Tommy Lloyd

2. Scott Drew

3. Chris Beard

4. Billy Donovan

5. Dusty May

6. Steve Alford

I like Scott Drew but there's an irreparable relationship with Indiana Elite who is one of the bigger AAU programs we recruit from.

How often do we get recruits anymore from them? I couldn't careless about them.

Not as much as we should. We'd be in good shape if we simply took the top 4-5 recruits from the 25 Indiana Elite team but instead we'll chase and throw money at Montverde kids, call them winners, and anoint them saviors before they ever play a game. Rinse, wash, repeat. Offseason champions every year for a reason.

I'm thinking about all the IE guys we've missed out on and/or not bothered to recruit in general.
