NCAA MBB Transfer Portal

Recommended Posts

This is college basketball. There is no salary cap. There are really no rules. Coaches are sliding into DM's daily, during the season and after the season. Whether the kid is in the portal, coaches are still reaching out. Does your program have good NIL support? You're in luck. Are you a mid-major head coach with a pretty good kid with pretty good numbers? Sorry, he's entering the portal.
This is why head coaches are retiring. This is why the NCAA will be mid-majors only here in a few years. B1G and SEC will create the new league.
They will have to I mean in three years guys will be asking for 3 million each. I'd be fine with two separate leagues honestly.

Assuming nothing is done to rein in NIL, it will be interesting to see what happens to the annual contributions to schools who underperform in the eyes of the big donors.   Even the most diehard big donor fans will expect to see a return on their investment.  They may be shortsighted in their approach but in the long run they won't back a loser.  That's not how they got rich to begin with.

Kid from Ball State I mentioned the other day -- Basheer Jihad, 6'9" forward who averaged 18.6 points, 8 rebounds and shot 35% from three -- has committed to Arizona State.

Brendan Hausen, Villanova, enters the portal.  Quality perimeter shooting role player.  Took 176 shots last, 160 were threes and hits 38% of his threes.  Averaged 6.2 points in 17.6 minutes.

Jonas Aidoo, Tennessee, put his name in both the portal and draft.  6'11", started all 36 games for Tennessee.  Averaged 11.4 points, 7.4 rebounds, and 1.8 blocks in 25 minutes.

Washington State point guard Myles Rice trending towards Indiana – The Daily Hoosier

Snip it below from the article above:

"The 6-foot-3 and 180-pound Rice rewrote the school freshman record book at WSU, breaking the single-game scoring, single-season scoring, single-season steals, single-season assists, single-season field goals, and single-season free throw percentage records. He averaged 14.8 points per game and led the Cougars to the NCAA Tournament for the first time in 16 years."

If Rice did this as a freshman at IU he'd have twice maybe three times the recognition that he has currently.  And yes some may say the offseason brings all sorts of opinions but he would have had a chance at being drafted at a minimum in the 2nd rd had he of put those stats up at IU.

Correct. Is there a more obscure outpost in power conference sports than Pullman, WA? They wildly over-achieved and the kid who hadn’t played in 2 years was 1 of the core reasons.

Maxime Raynaud, the No. 1 player in the On3 Industry Transfer Portal, announced he will return to Stanford.  The 7-foot-1 center averaged 15.5 points and 9.6 rebounds per game last season.

Nice sales job by Smith.

When I saw your post I looked up Smith. Makes you wonder how he didn't bring his Wazzu guard with him and keep the Stanford guard. Could he still be a factor where they turn down IU or is it already a done deal like @Chris007 says it is? I believe Chris007 but still makes you wonder why they didn't go to Stanford.

I think the big issue for Smith with a lot of kids is gonna be the insane travel. The idea of a Northern California school playing in the ACC is stone nuts. Both those kids talked about getting closer to home and Bloomington may not be close to Atlanta, but at least it is drivable.

Carlyle struggled with grades early on and actually missed the first part of the season because of it, so could be a reason why he is trying to get out, and Myles Rice was severely overlooked coming out of high school who has positioned himself to play at a bigger and better program where he can make some money.

Plus I keep forgetting that Washington State is going to be a temporary Mountain West school until they figure out what to do with them and Oregon State. I wonder how large the NIL Purse is at Stanford. I cannot even fathom Stanford in the ACC. Horrendous.

It's virtually non-existent. A huge reason why their football program has fallen off a cliff these last 3-4 years.

One of the biggest stars in the women’s game.

I would guess very little but with the right coach possibly pretty competitive. Stanford alumni in the tech sector alone could find $6mil in their couch cushions. Not the nice living room couch either, but the crappy one relegated to the pool house.  Lots of them right in the Bay area too.  The thing is I doubt they care about sports.

But if you had a dynamic young coach who could get them a little excited I could see one of the younger billionaires peeling off a million or something. Kind of like the SMU deal. Not much there now, but I’d rather be fishing those waters than up in Pullman or Corvallis.
