NCAA MBB Transfer Portal

Recommended Posts

I think the top of my wish list is the guard from Harvard. I don’t pay as close attention to this as HS recruiting so this is going to be a learning experience this offseason? Any good rumors of who might leave other places? I find the transfer portal to be mysterious lol

I certainly think he's going to transfer but I don't know why IU would be remotely interested. He was darn near unplayable for the Badgers in the past two months. He's shooting below 30% from 3 and does not appear to offer much of anything positive right now. Could a change of scenery help him? Absolutely. Do I think there will be many, many better options that would be attainable for IU? I do (but that's a hope...I hope really good players are willing to take the big NIL check and the playing time available at IU).

I'm tempted to root for Essegian and Goode both starting in the backcourt next year so we can finally put this "Indiana guy" nonsense to rest from multiple fronts.

Well sure. But also not in the portal and no reason to think he will be.

Blackmon, Goode, and Essegian are being discussed because they will likely be in the portal and playing close to home will be attractive to them. For me those guys aren't about getting 'Indiana kids'. It's about good shooters that are more likely to want to play at Indiana so that their friends and families can watch them.

I think if you can target Indiana players that ALSO fit the needs we would be stupid not to. I don’t want to believe this is simply Indiana Ignite for dollars only. If they didn’t exist then so be it get the best we need from wherever. I just am leery of the national mercenary plan. I’d be ecstatic if we could fill needs with legitimate rotations guys with Indiana ties. It’s probably a stupid take on my part but it still matters to me.

I just think you can get 2 guys that can be good shooters and provide a more well-rounded impact to the game. These two averaged 6 and 3 ppg in the same conference. Expecting them to come in and be anything but a 9th-10th man is setting yourself up for a rough season. Would we even be talking about them if they weren't from Indiana?

Agree on Goode, but I think CE still deserves a look. He's struggled with injuries all season and Blackwell cemented himself in the backup SG role, so CE never really got enough run between injuries to show what he did last year. With our critical need for shooting he is absolutely worth the risk and he still has 2 years left.

Does anyone else feel like the narrative lines up almost too perfectly for Booker? Big ten school, closer to home, already recruited him, Purdue has no scholarships left so he cant go there, and we literally just took a top 10 C recruit who struggled to get playing time and turned him into a 1st Rounder. It just makes too much sense.

I'm all in on this one with the upside. Think you would need to get a 2nd big body as insurance in case this year proves to not be a fluke.

I'll throw out another Indiana kid that could go into the portal. And I've been on record that I have never been a fan of this player. At all.

But he's been watching Kel'el Ware go from Oregon bench warmer to a lotto pick/at worst first rounder; in fact he watched it from one foot away from Kel'el yesterday. He's probably noticing that of all players nationally, Ware may be his most natural comp.

Xavier Booker.

Maybe we meet in the middle here lol. I admittedly don't know anything about XB personally. Have read the feedback on him in high school like everyone else. But I'm a sucker for high potential and the one thing Woodson has done well is maximize his bigs output the last 3 years.

Is Jalen Blackmon a possibility, don’t know much about his game other than the measurables and shooting splits are impressive. 38% 3PT and 91% FT on decent attempts. On paper it looks like he’s getting to the rim and shooting it well outside.

Worlds better than Cupps, Gunn, and Banks

Booker is extremely similar to KW in that their freshmen stats look very good when they play, they just get very little run. Woody trusted Ware to maintain efficiency while juicing his minutes and it worked, could for sure see him doing that again.

NO, NO ,NO.  5-star recruit and could only average 9 min/game on a mediocre Spartan team.  He ain't no Kel'el Ware that will blossom in Bloomington.  He doesn't want to work that hard and get dirty on the inside.  Wants to stand outside and jack 3s.
