NCAA MBB Transfer Portal

Recommended Posts

Decent late (re)entry:  Ques Glover, Samford. 6'0" combo guard, more of a point.  Played at Florida his freshman and sophomore years.  Over two seasons averaged 3.7 points per game in 10.8 mpg.  Struggled from deep.  Transferred to Samford and had a breakout year in 21-22, averaging 19.2 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 4.4 assists.  Shot 47/31/79.  In 22-23, he suffered a torn meniscus in November which kept him out for awhile but still averaged 14.7 points in 24.6 minutes over 19 games.  Shot from deep better and shot 47/38/85 overeall.  Committed to BYU on June 2nd but has now re-entered the portal.  As a grad transfer will be immediately eligible without a waiver.

Another late entry is Mike Meadows of Portland.  Has played for Eastern Washington and Portland.  Over the last three years averaged 10.5, 10.2, and 11.0 points.  Decent three point shooter.  Has shot 43/35/86 for his career.

We have seen this comment before.  But, I do not remember having seen it said by anyone on the coaching staff.  Or, as I compose this, I do not remember seeing it reported by any of our current players.

I hope that those on the team now will excel.  Am hoping a lot about the individual team members and coaches.  Like shooting improvements, defensive excellence...new players mesh with others...you know the drill.

But why do you post the above?   Is that your opinion?  Is it also because it is late in the recruiting season?  Is it because one would think that the addition of anyone with special skills and desire and work ethic and experience really would not complement or help the team?  Is it because what we see is likely what we will get?  I do not understand that position without an explanation.

Of course you do not owe me one.  But I am curious.

Trilly Donovan has suggested Indiana/Illinois/K state as most likely options for Que Glover

Trilly:

Indiana is in a similar position as Illinois – one scholarship left and needing a guard. The Hoosiers are banking on a healthy Xavier Johnson and a big jump from Trey Galloway this season. The addition of Glover would give Indiana the ability to spread the floor and create space for all of their athletic wings.

Sounds more like a comment on fit than whether IU will get involved. Woody hasn’t shown much of a taste for small guards, but a 1 year scenario might make some sense.

It is my opinion and yes primarily because it is late in the recruiting year and I don’t think anyone would come available with a skill set above what we already have so why add someone just to fill the roster spot?  If someone does become available that is above the skill set we already have for a shooting guard only, and he does have a good work ethic and would blend with our team chemistry, I would hope CMW would go after him.  I just don’t think anyone like that will come available this late in the summer!

I would agree that it is a comment more on fit but Trilly doesn't really post in a vacuum.  He has tended to make comments on teams and fit when there is some interest.

Omar Silverio's waiver to transfer to West Virginia denied.  He will have no college eligibility left.

Played as a freshman at Rhode Island in 2018-9.  Transferred to Hofstra and played three years there through 2021-22.  Transferred last year to Manhattan for his extra covid year but decided against playing when the Manhattan coach was fired about a week before the regular season started.  I assume that he felt he would get the waiver as others have been given waiver due to coaching changes;  in almost all cases, though, the coaching change is prior to the school year beginning.  Assume the NCAA did not allow the waiver as Silverio chose to not play.

He did get to play 4 full seasons, so not too harsh, IMO. I will be glad when the COVID nonsense is over and we can focus on all the other issues destroying NCAABB :)

I understand their logic in denying the waiver.  But in terms of the four full seasons, he was injured one season and limited to 13 games.  He'll graduate playing in exactly 100 games.  X has already played in 129 and has another season to go.

If a grad transfer guard pops up I hope Woody does all he can to land him.

With Newton undergoing another procedure, on the same knee he previously injured, we are now left with X, TG, and unproven Cupps/Gunn/Leal which is an extremely risky proposition. If X or TG go down we are in a world of hurt.

Woodson had  months to get a two guard and why he never got one is beyond me. I am sure we could have found one who wanted to come. Now we are down to 11 players and are an inury away from a worlld of hurt at the guard position.  Just mind boggling honestly.

Yep, and it’s just not an injury issue. If X and Trey average 30-32 minutes we need to hope that Gunn and Cupps are capable of sufficiently filling in for 16-20 minutes a game. It will great if they are ready but……we will see.

I'm pretty sure that Woody and the coaching staff are doing all they can to solve problems that they anticipate.

Having said that, it does seem like IU is light on guards.  I'm a stickler for having top notch guards and depth in those positions.  Coupled with the injuries that we have seen and the fact of the long, long season and the wear and tear on their bodies...  I just don't see the guards being sufficient.  IU is going to take a hit here.  And I hope to hell that I'm wrong.

Hope to never see a 6' 8" guy bringing the ball down the court to get it in play with the opponents' defenses set.

Cupps is like what 160 pounds? I am sure he can give some spot minutes but it is hard to imagine him playing 25 minutes a game if x or trey get hurt or are in foul trouble.  It may work out but it could also be a disaster if trey or x get hurt. Plus Cupps is a point guard so trey really has one backup in gunn and that is it period. MM really has no backup unless they play on 6'8 banks playing guard.

He's already mentioned having Banks  maybe playing the 2, about a month or so ago.
