The Season Is Finally Over, Now Where Does This Program Go?

I think this thread may finally be over. Where do we go from here?

A shooter, an Alpha Dog (I can’t stand Harms but we need a guy like him) that is driven to win and a big man would be a good start.

Ditto. I don't frequent any other message boards, because IU b-ball is the only thing I care enough about to make me get on one. Every time Crean's name comes up in a thread (whether it should be or not, lol) the thread just goes to sh!t.

I find this obsession with bashing the former coach as a way to avoid addressing problems with the current program ridiculous. Tom Crean is not the reason IU lost 11 out of 12 games this year. Crean is not the reason IU lost to Ohio State in the Big 10 Tournament thereby losing a chance to make the NCAA Tournament. I know some people on this board really hated the guy and apparently still do. I'm glad he's no longer the coach, too. But he is not to blame for this year's disappointing season.

No one was talking about Crean until you brought it up, Honky.

You've gotten lost in your own spin cycle.

Crean was fired because he was a bad coach. His last team struggled even with Anunoby. His recruiting nosedived. The APR situation was so dire the program could have been sanctioned by the NCAA had Crean stayed on.
And he begged to stay on i remember telling feed he was going to change how he recruited, etc. Fred did not want to fire him but had no choice.

He would have been gone after the 10-11 season. Threw money at Brad Stevens and still gotten Cody Zeller.

That year was a disaster and should of been it for crean. It would have been it at some other schools.

It is false to say no one was talking about Crean and Priller and the rest until I brought it up. I was responding to another in a series of rants about this topic. Hardly a day goes by when at least one person doesn't bring Priller and the others and go off on Crean up on this board and I let it go by. Instead, this time I expressed my opinion that getting Oladipo and Anunoby was worth a few misses. It brought out all the chronic Crean haters. Maybe I should have let it go by as I always have in the past but I didn't.  That's the last time, however. My opinion on the subject, for what its worth, has been expressed. I would hope that the others on this subject also drop it but I'm not holding my breath.

But, don't you understand, he's saying Tom Crean is irrelevant to what happened this year and what's going to happen next year. I don't understand why his name is even involved with this thread. I'm not trying to be an a-hole, I just see where Honkyman is coming from.

Crean is responsible for the majority of this year's contributors. Sure Moore, Smith, and Al are technically Archie's recruits, but he took the job in March. It wasn't like he had a chance to recruit for that class and bring in top talent. Everybody was committed at that point, and even if a few top guys weren't, he didn't have a chance as he hadn't been recruiting them at Dayton. The talent in Archie's 2 classes is much higher than the Crean/Archie class. In all likelihood, that 2017 class would have been much better if he had been here longer. Based on his Indiana recruiting success, he probably would have gotten Wilkes.

Nobody who's defending Archie is saying it's all Crean's fault. There's no way this team should have gone through a 1-12 stretch. But it's just not realistic to expect a quick turnaround when the top recruits are all freshmen and/or injured.

Wait, Fred seriously did not want to fire him?
That was the word. And I remember in Freds press conference he had said he strongly considered giving him another year. I think fred was told to fire him.

No, let's talk more about Crean and Priller and April and all those bad players Crean recruited years ago. That is the perfect focus for a threat entitled "The Season Is Finally Over, Now Where Does This Program Go?" And, let's believe unsubstantiated rumors about having to keep Crean's recruits (even though Miller pushed one of them out of the program).

How about a different angle? What should IU do to bring players into the program who can shoot 3-pointers at a respectable rate? I have to confess to feeling jealous watching Purdue hit 15 3-pointers last night on their way to the Elite 8. How do we get guys like Ryan Cline and Carson Edwards to come to IU? Should IU even be considering recruiting Joey Brunk when what we need most is shooters?

Get both? Good teams are usually multiple, right? At the very least you have to defend the post and despite all the talk about "positionless" ball it appears you still need big bodies to guard big bodies.  I'm fine with IU having a PG, a Center and 3 wings on the floor- but I want to see 2 legit post players (a not some "stretch" crap) on the roster all the time. Please no wanna be Kevin Durant's, I want (and believe IU needs) big men that like to mix it up in the paint......you know like the entire rest of the freaking Big ten conference.

Of course shooters are desperately needed too- but not an "either/or" they compliment each other.

Everyone knew Davis would be limited. Achilles injuries take time to heal and its more of a two year injury to get back to 100%. The fact we didn't have another option there knowing this is on the staff for not bringing someone in...oh wait they brought in Fizner :)

Fitzner averaged 5 PPG at St. Mary's.  I wish I understood the high expectations, but I don't.   I was far more disappointed with the complete lack of growth by Moore.  Forrester was a freshman.  Thompson was too, for all practical purposes.   Moore showed nothing for a sophomore; and while I wish him well, we won't miss him.

Those St Mary’s teams were like top 40 in Kenpom. Hardly a garbage team to be a role player on

We expected him to come in and fill a role. Not ridiculous at all. Yep pretty sure Nick Zs stats were not head and shoulders better.

He did fill a role.  Not always well; but he was far better in the minutes he played - especially defensively - than Moore would have been.   There were expectations of him doing more than he did.  Nick Z was a guard and played in someone else's system.   Much different player.  Apples and oranges.
