A completely disgusting performance by a disgustingly rudderless on-floor ship.  Good God.  Our seniors (save Johnson sometimes) are abysmal.

Hartman was absolutely awful tonight.  McSwain holds the world record for having his shots blocked.  Newkirk is a walking turnover.   We are forced to play, in Durham, Newkirk, and McSwain, 3 horrible basketball players.

Our focus is just awful.  How does a team from INDIANA miss 13 of 29 free throws?  Seriously.  How?  How does Juwon Morgan improve as much as he has, yet miss key free throw after key free throw?  (But my God, he was terrific again....we are AWFUL without him on the floor) How on God's Earth does Hartman shoot 1-4 and 0-3 from the 3 point line?  Isn't he a senior?? How do Johnson and McRoberts each equal the total rebounds of Hartman and McSwain combined??  (Hartman was just terrible tonight)  How in the holy hell do we shoot 50.8% and allow 41.5% FG's; make 3 more FG's than our opponent and still manage to get beat?  Against an 0-8 team in conference?  Our senior leadership sucks.  There.  I said it.  Yes.  It sucks.  Looking at you, Hartman.  Johnson.  Newkirk.

Why does Justin Smith play just 20 minutes?   He's only shooting 54% from the field this season, and is one of the only guys who was able to get in position to defend that stupid 4th grade elbow hand off.

This team is maddening.

That felt good.  Thank you for reading.

Old Friend, I hear ya brother

This could easily be a 5 game skid for IU, immediately following the game against Michigan State is a road game against Rutgers and Rutgers is no pushover any more. Hope I'm wrong but that's what I see. This team is more than likely NIT bound, and frankly, I am okay with that. Losing 3 NBA players and inheriting a team that played no defense and turning them into one of the better defensive teams in Big Ten has been impressive if you ask me. Archie is a good coach, and the program is in good hands, last night hurt but there are better days ahead. Fortunately, I think this team is more mature and will be more inclined to succeed in the NIT than they were last year. It may not be ideal to cheer for a team in the NIT but you take any win you can in a coaches first year on the job.
That's why winning last night was crucial. Things could get ugly in the next three. I get Durham plays because we have nothing else but he is not a big ten level player who should not see the floor next year unless he has the world's best summer of improvement.

Forget the 18 turnovers (well, except one). Forget the 13 missed free throws. Forget the 10 missed 3-pointers. Want to know what really, really, really pissed me off last night? Glad you asked. After all that nonsense, we worked an eight-point deficit with 1:19 to play down two two with 8 seconds to play and had the ball with a chance to force OT or to win and ... we didn't even get a shot off. I repeat: We didn't even get a shot off. That really, really pisses me off. I just can't fathom that happening. That's what happens to bad high school teams, not programs that are supposed to be the elite of the elite. That really, really honked me off. I'm starting to think I'm still mad about it!

I missed all that, I had to quit watching, due to my head almost exploding. i absolutely couldn't take any more. I really thought Archie was the answer, but Juwan not touching the ball for what seemed like an eternity was just beyond comprehension.

We won't know for several years if Archie is the answer on not. Heck it took some people 7 years to realize crean was not the answer. Amazing

CCG (or anyone) do you have the boxscore you usually post after the game. What is the site you use to get these?

Try ITH.  They post the IU box in their "at the buzzer" report.  http://www.insidethehall.com/2018/01/24/at-the-buzzer-illinois-73-indiana-71/

I think Durham, in the long run will be a great 4 year player, right now, he is our 4th best guard. Defensively, he is very good though, and if he can develop a 3 point shot, he'll be perfect in Archie's system. As you said however, it will likely take time. Can't undersell how big RP is next year, but still going to be lacking in the guard category. Devonte Green (assuming he doesn't transfer) will have to be our second point guard, and unless Archie can really, REALLY rein him in, I don't see our guard play being much better. Here's to hoping though!

I honestly don't know what people are expecting. We have absolutely no shooting. We have no PG. Our only big man is a 6'7" 3 star guy. Our backup center is a 6'4" guy who should be playing football. We lost our 3 best players from a team that went 7-11 last season with zero impact recruits. Yet we will still likely go 9-9. Kind of miraculous when you think about it .
We need an alpha dog!!

I hope we get some grad transfer guards. Durham could be a role player but if he's playing major minutes we are in trouble. Same with green.

I totally agree. I have to admit, I did think we would get a little more out of our seniors than we have. They are terribly unaware much of the time. But wow, can you imagine this team if they played D like last year?

Ah, the play where Green fired a 100 mph pass at Morgan's ankles.

It felt like we had double digit turnovers in the second half alone.

I agree. People's expectations are really out of whack when you think about the roster Archie has to manage. I will say though that part of that potential 9-9 record is the fact that the BIG is just really down this year outside of Purdue and Mich St.

Which will help is not be a total dumpster this season. Watching these guy play, all i can think is “wait until his guys are here”. I think the future is bright. We will have to live with the bumps until then.
