Let’s not worry just yet, but the actions of prior coaches and administrators have severely tarnished the IU brand.

That, mixed with the fact I became a fan during the Eric Gordon year, when I saw my first game. I have yet to really see any great IU basketball, aside from the year they should have won the title. My dad talks about how good IU was and I hope desperately Archie brings them back, I just stay cautiously optimistic.

I hear ya. I was a kid the last time IU was a consistently dominant force in college basketball.

Not to sidetrack this thread too much, but I remember watching what I consider the last really good team that Knight had in 92-93. Watching them run the motion offense was a thing of beauty. Had Henderson not gone out that year, I really think that would have been number 6.

My dad is an Indiana kid born and raised, from Carmel, played middle school ball with Alan Henderson, (he said he was awful because his feet were too big for his body). I can tell he misses the Knight days, simply because he hates losing. Like I said, as a college student, I've only seen one year in which they were legitimate title contenders. I hope someday soon we can get back to that, I think Archie is a good enough coach to do that, but not if he can't recruit better than Crean. Time will tell, TJD will be telling if you ask me.

In all this I think we have to keep in mind the perspective of these 15-18 year old kids. Myself included, we tend to evaluate the program and predict the future from more realistic and mature (usually) viewpoints. A lot of kids don't have foresight, nor do they have the adults around them to help them fully evaluate the many opportunities in front of them. Kids in general take the path of least resistance, the one mostly likely to bring instant gratification. Right now Archie's sample size is too small and he's had to provide it with a semi bunk roster while unteaching bad habits and teaching a new system. Tom Crean, as mentioned above, is the only real-time image of Indiana basketball these kids have really experienced until now. I believe Archie will be better and more successful than Crean, but I think the image change will be gradual as will the curb appeal of Hoosier basketball to higher level recruits.

A big breakout year for IU would definitely speed all of that up. Guys like Trayce, Romeo, et al would obviously be incredible assets for the cause. But until we have a consistently high level of play the competition for in state recruits will be fierce.

My dad honestly thinks if May doesn't get hurt in 75 (obvious one), Henderson in the 90s and Landon Tuner before the 82 season... we could easily have 3 more.

Having been around for all of those, agreed except for maybe '82. That would have been a really good team, and a possible champion, but replacing Isaiah was tough.

Yeah, I can see that. I did see Turner was All-tournament team in 81.. so he must have been really good that year.

Once the light came on for Landon, he was terrific. Size, athleticism, skill; he had it all. I, too, was dreaming of back to back championships albeit through my crimson colored glasses. And then the accident....

I've heard  that he was originally planning on a spring announcement, anyone else see this anywhere?

I haven't heard that anywhere.  I know that many were speculating that he'd commit at HH.
