Except it's nothing extra special; a 4 star, a 3 star and an unranked. Then a hometown 5 star who probably would need a bulldozer to pull him away from LSU.

Is this a reason or an excuse?

I'm sure we'll do fine too, Indiana has always recruited itself pretty well regardless of the coach in place.  Some are more optimistic than others regarding current recruiting, but we're all hoping for the best.

I'm a little discouraged with having no recruits yet, and a little surprised that Nahziah Carter chose Washington.  He loved Archie at Dayton, but didn't want to follow him to IU?  Strange.

I guess excuses vs reasons will be decided next year at this time.

Could be pt and many other factors involved.

Washington is more like Dayton, than Washington is like Indiana.

it's neither. But, Indiana isn't in a position for excuses. Nothing to be excused, yet.  But reason might side with UK, Duke and Kansas that also have no commitments for '18.

Most of the fellas we are after are the type that commit later in the process. It's my belief that we'll get a quality greater than the 3 who verbaled to Wade and LSU.

So do we actually have people differentiating between the two? If person A doesn't like the end result or has various motives it will always be an excuse. Person B says Carter wanted instant PT and Washington provides that. Does person A honestly feel person B is giving a reason? No. They feel as though everything is an excuse which is an unrealistic expectation. Same ole no matter who the coach is.

Just curious...but if CAM got only Indiana players, would Langford, phinisee, Anderson, Hunter be such a bad class? That'd be great

I'd be fine with it and Jallow would be a perfect 5th addition.

He could add D3 players with Langford and I would be happy.

I think Anderson is #2 prospect in the state.

I think Jallow is being overlooked.

I think Hunter/Phinisee are i the next best class.

I'm afraid the staff is looking past Jallow for some shinier objects and that they might regret it at some point.

Yes. I've been saying this for a few weeks. If we land an entire class better than Jallow we will all be stoked, but if we don't, I will have no idea why we didn't pursue him harder

Maybe the staff has legitimate reason why they think this way. I remember in '91 thinking about Henderson and Big Dog Robinson. It just felt like Robinson was better, but Henderson seemed to better fit Indiana.

Maybe we're overlooking Jallow or maybe Jallow is looking past IU.  Maybe there's no mutual personal connection between Jallow and Archie.  Maybe Jallow doesn't want to play in his backyard.  None us really knows for sure but the fact we have seemingly cooled on Jallow doesn't necessarily mean it's all one-sided and all on the shoulders of our coaching staff.  Just my 2 cents worth.

That's true. It just seemed like Musa said something like the staff hasn't really been to see him. Seems he was expecting it, anticipating it or hoping for it.

Here's where, per sourced info, we apparently are:

We are solidly leading for Race Thompson, and the coaching staff wants some combination of D Anderson, Bazley, J Hunter, Dort, and King, plus a PG with Garland their first choice, David Duke second choice, then Phinesse. They feel Romeo not an IU likelihood.

Hopefully, that adds up to four commits when it's all said and done. if it does, that's a top fifteen class nationally right out of the gate for the new staff.

Patience friends, patience.

I have no idea what the staff is doing in regards to Romeo. I do know that some down here in SoIn think IU will be in it to the end with Romeo. Those are different people than the Donovan to IU peeps.

I'm with you there and I believe he mentioned visiting IU after the Egypt trip.

Most commits start around August/September when OV start. If we get to October with no commits then I will we be worried. Until then this convo is just spinning wheels, repetitive, and hilarious.

This is a fair point.

I'll admit to feeling pessimistic about Archie's recruiting, as I see other schools landing their targets and our targets going elsewhere. But I think even the guys who track recruiting professionally would agree that the 2018 class overall is committing awfully early. We're not even to the July evaluation period, and over a third of the top 100 kids are already off the board. That's likely why so many of us feel anxious, despite it being so early in the process. In years past, we typically haven't landed our first recruit until September. So, taking your advice, I'll try and wait for OV season before I start freaking out.

I definitely get that. They are committing earlier this year more than most. One thing other years should teach us is players that commit early are very likely to open up their recruitment for various reasons. I would be willing to guess close to half of the top 100 players currently committed will open up their recruitment once other players start committing or for other reasons. Feelings for players change for various reasons. We still have the July cycle. Some of the committed players will have coaches, players, and handlers in their ears this month. This was part of the reason we were always leery of Crean taking early commits. We wanted him to wait until the fall of the players signing year. Now we have that and people get nervous. I just honestly don't know what people truly want or would make them happy.
