I coached a few years of High School baseball, and one thing I will never do is coach little kids. The parents are 1,000 times worse at that age. Granted most of the kids I coached were only a couple years younger than me so they knew better than to try the stuff they would on an older coach, but I also made it clear that if a parent didnt like what I was doing they could take their son home(no parent took me up on that offer) I was an assistant but the head coach was only the head coach because he was a teacher and the previous HC quit in the middle of the season and he didnt want the kids season to end.  After his first year he stayed on as HC but let me and a couple other former players run things.

One story I did have was a kid who was about 4-5 yrs younger than I was and he had a bad attitude and always wanted to fight/defy authority. He honestly had a rough upbringing, I was later told his dad beat on him and called him every name in the book and just walked out one day. Well one day I kicked him off the field and after practice went back and dragged him back on it and he and I had a long heart to heart followed by a lot of running. I told him that I will be on his @$$ every day whether it was at school or at practice and he didnt have the option to quit, but I also told him I would always be the first one there to support him if he ever needed it. One day another coach called him a worthless piece of **** because he did a take out slide trying to break up a double play and that coach and I went nose to nose over it, and after it happened I grabbed that kid and gave him a big hug because he was crying. I came to find out later that he wasnt crying because his feelings were hurt he was crying because no one ever stood up for him before. I told him that I may be an ******* but I will always be there if he needed anything. Now many years later that same kid is in the military and about to be married. The day he graduated boot camp he called me and just said thank you. Kids like that makes it all worth it.

Awesome story! Thanks for sharing.

Kentucky's Hamidou Diallo will test the NBA waters. No surprise. NBA personnel have been gathering more & more intel on him as of late

@evansdaniels

Redshirt a semester and done. That could be a new one

Kentucky's Diallo is testing waters without an agent

There were rumors when CAM was hired that Kostas Antetekounmpo would potentially follow him here? I know we're already in a bind on scholarships, but has anybody heard anything about that in the last month?

I think most of that was message board fueled. Never really a thing.

As if I couldn't hate pUKe enough, and yes I know he is not hiring an agent and all that jazz, but to me this just seems like a giant middle finger to the NCAA, universities, and to every student athlete that has ever been under scholarship. We all know that pUKe is a funnel for the one-n-dones but for a kid to enroll in January then to test the waters? Talking with a few pUKe fans this morning, they said yeah we knew he would do this but he isn't going anywhere he can't shoot! That maybe but if he somehow has a decent shooting night at one of the evaluations, with the potential that he is said to have in athleticism, this kid could be a 1 redshirt term and done. What an absolute waste of funds that would be on the university.

Something needs to be done with the NBA or NCAA to stop the one-n-done madness. All it would take would be for the NCAA to propose a rule about athletic scholarships to change it. I know its all about the money anymore but there is potential here to have a college scholly player that never steps foot on the court for there school and goes directly to the NBA.

One of my all-time favorite Rupp Rafters/UK fan exchanges is below. Let me set the stage:

  • 5 star "student athlete" Hamidou Diallo commits to UK and joins their team last December
  • Diallo works out with the team, but apparently, even when offered by Calipari, says "no thank you" when asked to play in games
  • Yesterday, "student athlete" Diallo, after four months with a jersey but not one second of playing time, declares for the NBA draft, and is unlikely to return to UK in the fall.

And now, for the best part: the two UK fans with a point - counterpoint that only Kentucky logic could devise:

Cal has stated he wanted to let Diallo play but Diallo said he didn't want to play this year. Whats Cal going to do??? Kick him off the team for not going in when asked?

Dreklie

Not even sign him. Lol. Now dude will get a completely free education anytime in his life he needs it, and for what?

Sounds like this kid doesn't want to expose any flaws on T.V. Like I said earlier, the pUKe fans here admitted the kid has potential but can't shoot. Maybe he's just "using" the system to slide into the NBA on potential.

North Carolina’s Joel Berry II is withdrawing from the NBA Draft process, and will return to Chapel Hill next season, school announces.

Not good for the rest of college bball, but Berry isn't a player that will make it in the NBA imo
