(2017) PG Tremont Waters to LSU

Notre Dame-West Haven senior guard Tremont Waters will announce on Wednesday afternoon which of the seven Division I colleges he will play basketball at beginning ibn the fall of 2017.

Waters, a New Haven resident, will make that decision at 4 p.m. the Farnam House in New Haven, where he grew up playing. The seven schools in the running are: Duke, Kentucky, Indiana, UConn, Georgetown, Kansas and Yale.

When reached by phone Tuesday afternoon, Ed Waters, Tremont’s father, said the list has been reduced to four, but wouldn’t say which four. He said the family would discuss it further Tuesday evening.

Waters confirmed that Kentucky coach John Calipari “was here three times”, Kansas coach Bill self once, Georgetown coach John Thompson III twice, but not UConn coach Kevin Ollie. He also said Indiana sent an assistant.

I believe this commitment is more important than Wilkes. If Waters commits, we have one of our starting five spots locked down and in excellent shape for the next three or four years. Also, we just picked up another Crystal Ball.

Man.. This is a big one IMO. I just don't get why Kentucky and Kansas remain in the mix other than name recognition. Will Waters be able to go to either of those schools and start immediately?

Wonder how Cheatipari, Self, Ollie, and Thompson III were able to make it there but Indiana was only able to send and assistant??

I know for a fact that nobody outworks Crean. Makes me wonder why Calipari has been there three times and Crean only sent an assistant. However, I am sure there is a good explanation - because nobody is out hustling Crean.

Not that it means a whole lot at this point, but the three most accurate "Crystal Ball Predictors," of 2017 so far, Corey Evans, Jerry Meyer, and Andrew Slater, have all picked IU.

Jerry Meyer notes fact that he just visited Georgetown but CB action is staying Indiana and growing. Have to like our odds here but certainly could see this tilt overnight.

I might be way off base but I feel if we get Waters we lose either Green or Cujo to transfer next year.

Idk what to think about this. Not really trusting the crystal ball on this particular recruitment. Have a gut feeling it could be a team like Georgetown because he'll start there right away and he just visited. Can't say the same for us, UK, or Kansas.

Agreed. I think he's good enough to come in and take over ball handling duties from day one. Crean would have to figure out how to manage the rest of the roster.

I could definitely see a starting back-court of Waters/RoJo, with CuJo being the first guard off the bench before stepping in for RoJo his junior year.

I don't think all four of those guys are limited to playing traditional PG. And who's to say Green and Cujo are ready to start next season?

Crean has shown that he doesn't always do the PG, SG, SF, PF, C lineup so there's room on the floor for more than two guards at times.. If you've got a guy with handles like Waters, you start him at the 1.
