X-Hoosier Posted March 4, 2016 Posted March 4, 2016 People watch ESPN to keep up with the Teams and Sports they love, not to listen to guys throw out their opinions, at least I do. ESPN is in the entertainment business. So they have to choose entertainment over news. Sportscenter is for news. The other shows are entertainment. Quote

Old Friend Posted March 4, 2016 Posted March 4, 2016 Well if you don't like anyone on ESPN... Why watch it? Wow... Okay, for the simple sport of it. When did I say I didn't like anyone on ESPN? I said I don't like Bomani Jones, but he's mostly radio. I don't watch Skip Bayless, but certainly know who he is and have seen his lame act enough times to have formulated an opinion. I don't watch it a ton, but what I do watch isn't for the personalities. Maybe you watch all day because you have nothing better to do... Are you this obtuse full time? I watch for certain personalities. On Highly Questionable, PTI, Sports Nation, Around the Horn. First Take at times. But often. Can't stand His and Hers. SC just bores me sometimes. Quote

KB0 Posted March 4, 2016 Posted March 4, 2016 I used to dislike Bomani Jones, I thought he was a hater of a lot of teams. The more I listened the more I came around on him. He's extremely intelligent and well spoken. His credentials speak for themselves. His show is so much better than the normal stuff you catch on sports radio. LeBatard and Stugotz are the absolute cream of the crop. LeBatard absolutely understands that sports radio in itself is idiotic. He points out the stuff we obsess over and try to analyze, instead of having conversations of actual substance. Stugotz plays the role of the dunce perfectly. They have a great time. Such a phenomenal show. Excluding Zach Lowe, Bill Barnwell (well pretty much anyone left over form Grantland for that matter), Rachel Nichols, and maybe a few others, ESPN personalities are awful. They are all about their "hot takes" and making outlandish claims to draw in viewers. It's a business and it's not a bad plan from a viewership standpoint. It just results in an annoying product. Also I saw someone mentioned Colin Cohwerd's name earlier, he's the same as Skip and Caly Travis. Just grabbing for headlines. Quote
Parakeet Jones Posted March 4, 2016 Posted March 4, 2016 I can honestly say I just watch ESPN for games and Sportcenter only. I'm to the point of gams only. I can't even stomach SC any more. Also, if there are equal quality games on ESPN and FS1, BTN or even CBS on the weekends, I'll take the FS1, BTN, or CBS game every time. Obviously if the best game is on ESPN I'll watch that one. Popular Post TrueHoosier62 Posted March 4, 2016 Popular Post Posted March 4, 2016 ESPN Reminds me a bit of MTV. When MTV started, it was all about music videos. Then, as time went by, they began to add "shows", and the total number of videos began to diminish. Eventually, the channel became almost devoid of music videos, but had tons of shows that very few of the original viewers cared to watch. At one time, everyone loved ESPN because unlike one's local news, where one had to wait until 5:25 in the evening to catch the scores and highlights, ESPN gave those to you 24/7, and the focus was on the games and highlights. Then it started to become more about the on-air personalities, and human interest stories. As the years have gone by, the format has changed to the point where scores and highlights are almost secondary to stories of various content, most of which are uninteresting, manipulative, or redundant. The announcers all vie to see who can either be the funniest or shocking in their commentary, and as someone else here said, "can coin the next catch phrase". Lately, I see where they've decided to try and educate the masses about politics, giving us yet another source for classic northeast liberal dogma. I'd like to think that the only thing they're good for these days is watching an actual game, but then I remember that their court side "analysts" are just extensions of the same morons found in the studio in Bristol, so one has to endure those blathering fools while trying to follow play. It's getting more and more difficult to just "watch a game" these days. ThompsonHoosier, MadAboutIndiana, Stuhoo and 6 others 9 Quote

I'm not beholden to any political party or person that tells me what to think or feel, so I sure as hell don't need a sports channel telling me.
