But, you said you knew nothing about him.

What I should have said.. we don't know much about him... except that he was TO prone and can't hit the broad side of a barn from the outside.

I am not a Crean apologist but I don't hate the guy either. Regardless, I'm happy for him and the team on the B1G Championship. He's shown a lot of growth this year.

BUT, as much as we can celebrate the B1G Championship and be happy about it (and rightfully so), he will ultimately be judged by how this team does in the tourney. We would all gladly forego the conference 'ship for a final four run. Excited to see how it goes for him and the team. It's just so refreshing to see a team performing well at the end of the season and even better is it is likely due to his adjustments throughout the season.

CTC has my vote for next year as of now......but things can change quickly.

I wouldn't trade a conference title for a final four appearance. One is actually winning a championship, the other is just making a round in a tournament. Now I'd trade a conference title for a national title every time.

coaches probably would. When a coach makes his 1st final 4 it's compared to a golfer winning his first major. Coaches are graded by final appearances. As a coach u never want to be on the list they show during the tournament as the best coach never to make a final 4

Crean has made a final four. I grade coaches by actual championships, not how close they can get to one.

Edit: I'm a former coach in a different sport. To me just for a w/l perspective it was about actually winning a championship and not just getting close. Crean has 3 chances at a championship per year. If he can win one of the conference, conf tournament, or national title I'm thrilled. I'm not trying to diminish a final four but I'm not willing to trade a championship for a final four appearance. I'll gladly take a conference championship and a final four appearance though.

Interesting idea. It probably depends on the AND what happens in the NCAA. BT title and underperforming in the NCAA or top 4 in the BT and FF I probably take the latter.

I strongly prefer ... both.

Curious in recruiting when a coach tells a recruit they won a conference regular season title or they tell a recruit they went to a final 4 which one would matter more for a high level recruit

I edited my previous post but the thread has already continued. Yes I agree I'd definitely want both. If you have a team that can win the conference, then you have a legit shot at a final four.

We better win one of the two against Iowa or Maryland (I think we lose to Iowa and a win against Maryland).  I don't want to be co-champions with a two game lead with just two games left.   If we lose both games this thread will blow up.  Many (IU fans and other fanbases alike) will view us as champions due to weak scheduling.

And even if we do win one of the two, if we lose early in the BTT and are knocked out prior to the sweet sixteen, this thread will jump up to 10k posts before the start of the next season.

agree

I agree with DD and Greenburg that IU is final four good. I thought we had final four talent in the preseason, but it took a bit for the team to hit its stride. Now I'm believing if the team continues on playing well, then we could have the conference and a final four appearance.

If IU loses 2 in a row and get beat early in both tournaments, then I can see the underachieving mantra coming back out. But his job would be safe.
