What about our run in 02 to National Championship? That was exactly 15 yrs ago so I can see you not taking that into account except your also saying 3 Big Ten Tourney semi's one of which in 01 (and its actually 4 since we went to semi's in 02 and lost on Recker's shot) occurred before our national title run in 02.

Yes but dont underestimate what a great showing could do for some of our fans. May be enough to get support back obviously most of us wont be tricked again but not sure about the entire fanbase

He is definitely recruiting. There were pictures taken of him at Martinsville last night. Also, Alex Bozich retweeted several Crean sightings at high school last night. Crean was wearing his black Indiana University jacket. I don't know how to post tweets or I would put them here for you.

That's what sucks the most.  We're put in a position as fans of rooting for losses to (hopefully) ensure that sanity prevails and we end this period of mediocrity.

Lmao @ everyone getting worked up with no announcement yet. That's what happens when you set arbitrary dates in your head as if they mean something to everyone else. This is also what happens when you listen to "insiders" on an Internet forum. Chill guys. People expecting an announcement before the season was over had no basis for doing so. He may be back. He may not, but nothing has been made official. If it came down to a "soft landing (which I don't believe), wouldn't he want to wait until after the tournament to see what all opens up? What has Glass said to be this blithering idiot that you guys make him out to be? Has he said Crean is back? If he has or does he essentially ties himself into a 1 year deal with Crean. He is not that dumb.

Could've been Fred Glass voting time after time after time after time, then going back to spit shining Crean's Sweet 16 ring before voting time after time after time again.

Maybe we should put together a gofundme page to raise cash for a full page add in the Bloomington and Indy papers with a great factual stat-filled lettet as to why Crean should be gone. Get real sappy with Hoosier sentiment on how the program means so much to so many etc..etc! Make it impossible for the administration, coach and supporters not to be informed of what the fanbase wants. A small percentage of fans are on these forums thus a small percentage that really is informed of the distaste with this coaching staff.

I've seen one "insider" thing that pointed to him being gone several weeks ago but would not make it certain in anyway. Just remember what big time donors think matters (especially ones with names on a university building). That's all I will say.

I rarely post, but am so upset at the prospect of our retaining Coach Crean as our head coach that I just fired off a respectful, yet very honest email to Fred Glass. I would encourage all of you to do the

Mr. Glass, I felt compelled to write now that the season is over and decisions need to be made with regards to the future of the Men's basketball program, more specifically Coach Crean's future as our head coach.

I have been a fan since the glory years of the mid-70s and graduated from the university in '92. Hard to say this as I consider myself a true fan, but was unable to watch a good number of games this year due to a growing apathy that I truly believe is running rampant in our fan base. The inability to sustain success coupled with the repeated issues of poor defense and way too many turnovers have me very concerned with the direction of our program.

Coach Crean seems like a really good person who graduates players and has their genuine best interests at heart. With that said, he is paid over $3M per year to do all of this and yet provide a winning brand of basketball, one that the fans can take great pride in. This is not happening in my opinion.

At this point in time, you are the steward in terms of the future direction of this program. I'm not sure you can feel it from your vantage point, but this fan base is ready to implode. I live in Fort Wayne and have never seen such indifference to the Hoosiers in my life. There is zero confidence that Coach Crean will ever be anything more than what he has shown during his 9 years here. He will have a few good years mixed with very average to poor years. This new generation of IU fans will know nothing but mediocrity. Unfortunately, we can no longer be viewed as a blue blood program and that is a shame based on our history, facilities, and once proud fan base.

It is sad for me to see schools such as NC State and Illinois take lack of sustained success more serious than we do. How is that possible?

The school will not suffer dramatically from the loss of my support moving forward, i.e a few games a year, merchandise, and lots of cable viewership, but I still wanted to be heard. This is unfortunately it for me barring a change in leadership.

In the meantime as it appears the program continues to fade, Beilein consistently has his teams improving late in the season, the MSU "off year" will still have an NCAA tournament appearance, and Wisky has become the face of the league. Even Illinois had a 4 game win streak in February with a 18-14 record and they still dismiss Groce.

 

I don't even know why my point is anymore. Lol. Just a disappointing thing to watch and venting.

If we weren't going to play an NIT game at AH, maybe an announcement would already have been made.  But, when it became apparent that there would likely be an NIT home game, I don't believe Glass had any intention of allowing CTC to be a lame duck coach in AH.  I think this will play out after that game with a joint press conference with CTC announcing his resignation to accept a job at (fill in the blank) and FG thanking him for his service and within 48 hours, our new coach will be announced.  And I truly believe FG knows who that coach will be.  He may be a lot of things, but I don't believe for a moment that he's completely stupid.

I've heard that a pivotal point in the Glass Crean meeting came when Crean proved to Glass that he had verbal commitments from a three star out of Iowa and a 2 star from Oklahoma. He then persuaded Glass by promising not to schedule instate titans like IPFW, pledging that Taylor and Indiana Wesleyan would be the two toughest teams in the second half of the preseason.

Without announcing it the environment in AH might get really toxic.

He's still under contract with IU.  But his presence at a game doesn't necessarily imply that he's truly recruiting.  And, he'll end up coaching somewhere so he's bound to want to keep up appearances.  When's the last time you heard that he offered a scholly?  To me, that's as telling as FG's silence.
