TOM CREAN FIRED

Recommended Posts

Sadly if he comes back I will still have to try to make his positives out weigh the many negatives in my mind. If he found a way to Waters that would soften the blow a bit. I think IU has to be in a good spot with him. Waters is the type of PG that can make us a lot better next year without as much talent just because he is a smart kid. He would lessen our TO's. I have wanted Crean gone for awhile and still do, but I love this program to much to give up hope no matter who is on the sidelines.

The Louis King thread got me thinking.

Anyone else think Chuck Martin is vastly overrated. He was a recruiting guru for Calipari.

He's mostly fallen flat for Crean.

We get in ALL these top 10 and 5 lists and don't win much.

Anyway, I was hoping he was going to be the recruiting help Crean needed.

Stronger than me. If he is back I will not watch a minute of the season.......and it'll just be my luck that Crean flukes his way to the Final Four or something haha

Well for one, Crean probably wanted an extension after last season and didn't get it. That tells me that Glass wanted to wait and see if Crean could build some consistency. Strike one. Two, IU was #3 in the country at one point this year and won't be in the NCAA tournament. Strike two. And three, Glass knows his job would be on the line if he brought back Crean when almost the entire fan base wants him gone. Strike three. Crean is out

I've been very critical of glass but not giving an extension after last year was the smartest thing he ever did. We be screwed right now if he had.

Don't see it happening.  There's not an NBA Hall of Famer to carry him.

For me, it started with the Pierre Pierce rape aftermath. How he attempted to utilize the Athletes in Action priest to quiet the girl and get her to drop it. Alford had him stage it as an intervention of sorts after blasting her in public after being raped by his star player. Beyond that his record of making the tournament is atrocious. Until this year which we will see how he finishes he was universally hated by UCLA fan base as a horrible coach to the point he gave up money to the school. Rule of thumb for me is if a fan base isn't sad to see you go there is a reason. They dislike him more than we do with Crean.

I don't think I'll watch if he's back but I applaud you for thinking positive. Crean needs to be fired because he clearly isn't the long-term answer. One recruit won't change that.

If Crean is extended, the mood surrounding IU basketball will be crushed to an even greater low. Zero momentum with nothing to look forward to.

If he wants to come to Indiana than he knows how important the April recruiting period is and wouldn't want to miss it. That's why I don't really buy that narrative.

If Glass knows how critical this hire is he won't want to screw it up over a detail that when it can be mitigated.

If he assembles his staff and they know he's coming they can go to a recruit with his name as a selling point.  Any meetings he needs with the staff or team can be done remotely with conference calls or video conferencing.  It is more than doable enough for Glass to not let that be a deal breaker.

I'm sure Crean pushed for it and there was one reason behind it. Crean knew he couldn't build off of a good season and tried to swindle Glass into locking him up long term yet again. That tells me Glass wanted to see if last year was a fluke or a sign of things to come. He definitely got his answer and that's why us fans will get the answer we want in the next few days
