I just said it earlier. He signed a long term extension with Butler and left for the Celtics. So that tells me right there it's possible

It was 3 years after he signed. Money was better. It was also the Boston Celtics.

Honestly I want to move past Stevens as a possibility and focus on other guys. It would be great to get him, but I don't see it ever happening. He's in a nice position with Boston. In 2-3 years they'll probably be the favorites in the East. Coming to IU would be a pretty big downgrade from his current job. If he really does miss the college game Duke would take him, imo. I would love for him to come here because he's a once in a generation type coach, but I don't think we can wait in limbo hoping he picks us. We need to make a move soon so we can get the program back on the right track.

To be fair, that's going from college to the NBA.  Bloomington isn't better than Boston, but that's not why you make the call.  You go in with the mindset that you're going to get your guy and make an offer they can't refuse, do what it takes to get the guy you want.  You cannot have the mindset that it's a waste of time, if you do you may as well not even call; I could hear it now, "hello Coach Stevens, would you be...you know what, I'm going to hang up on myself now".

Yes, Ainge and Stevens said during the press conference it'd put the college questions to rest.  What else would you expect them to say?

Yes going from college to the NBA is different because NBA is the highest level of basketball in the world. A lot of people would kill to be a HC for any team, let alone the Boston Celtics. But Brad being from Indiana, I think he would come back

He still left with 9 years remaining on his contract

Length of contracts is mostly meaningless certainly in pro sports but also in college basketball and football where oftentimes the length is for cosmetic purposes in aiding recruiting.

Yes length of contracts has as much to do with recruting as the guy being a good HC. All I'm saying is there is a chance. If he's not the first call, something is wrong with Fred Glass

He didn't really give himself much time to do that. He was there for 5 years and the 1st year was rebuilding a pretty bad team. His 2nd year he took ISU to the tourney for the first time since 2005. Not much of a sample size.

Devil's advocate, but "he was there for 5 years and the 1st year was rebuilding a pretty bad team" sounds very similar to what we could say about Crean after year 5 and look where we are. Not sure Hoiberg is the answer. Though I don't have the answer either.

The Cavs window is closing fast. They have upside. That move just does not make sense. I swear the only way for fans to get over him is if he came out and said he hates us. He just signed an extension where both him and Ainge said this will put the college questions to rest. It has not. He has said numerous times he isn't going anywhere. People still think it's possible. Why? Hope?

Yeah it's pretty clear if Stevens did make a move to IU from Boston, it would not be a basketball decision.  It would be more about moving his family back to the Midwest in the state he spent most of his life.  The decision would pretty much be a lifestyle decision more than a basketball one, it would just be up to him where he sees the best fit.

He probably does see himself coaching IU one day though, whether it's at age 40 or 55. Maybe, we can hope, he won't want to pass up the opportunity because he isn't sure when he'll get another one.  But I agree, he'd be borderline crazy to leave that situation in Boston.  He's coaching one of the best franchises in all of sports, and their arrow is pointed sky high right now.  They're a draft pick or free agent away from being a legit championship contender.

I would be shocked if that call hasn't been made in some way shape or form. I highly doubt if Glass doesn't know whether Stevens is worth going after. If we don't go after him in public view it doesn't mean he wasn't our first call.

As you can tell, Stevens is my first choice and probably the only name on my whole first page. But that doesn't mean there aren't any other good coaches. There are multiple that would be significant upgrades and Glass has to know this

Most venerable poster Milehiiu on the 247 board is very far from a Crean hater.
He just posted that there is movement toward an amicable split.
FWIW

Well, it's obviously true if you saw it on the internet!   But seriously folks, IF there's any substance to this, it suggests to me Glass already has his replacement pretty much lined up.

Whoa. That is crazy coming from him. He only goes with what he is told. He has no sources other than posters that followed him from Scout. Crazy cause he never posts anything anti-Crean.

Edit: He knows which posters he can trust for most part.

Hey...I've seen plenty of posters in the internet state that Glass will never fire CTC after this year.
Someone's wrong, and milehi is pretty dialed in!

Yes he is and it needs to happen. I obviously want Stevens but there's plenty of other good coaches out there as well

It is crazy. He posts what he's told. And when he talks, you listen

My buddy who is a Notre Dame fan texted me out of nowhere the other day and just said "Hoiberg is your next coach" so at least others outside of IU circles are seeing there is a need for change
