TOM CREAN FIRED

Recommended Posts

I don't know about lowered expectations but I'm personally "halfway" happy with the last 5 years of ball. It's been so much more exciting to watch than what we have seen since the 90s. I want a title but I'm personally not going to crap the bed. This all goes back to the notion that has been said 1000 times in this thread. Elite or let's ride this pony out. Don't swap him for the same breed horse. I'd rather have Crean honestly than another similar coach and results.

I get the thought, but we cannot wait around for one of those coaches to need a job because the elite, home run coaches won't 'need' one.  We have to identify who we want, then go out and do what it takes to get them; they want to win big, we have the resources they need.

94 on does not come close to the criteria you initially mentioned. I missed that you said avg 2 wins in the tourney which made me argue that IU hadn't done that before in the tourney (and in the earlier stretch mentioned), so that was my mistake. Missing that, I thought you said year to year.

So question, and maybe playing devils advocate here, but does expecting Crean to achieve Bobby Knight like results not down play Knight? We just picked Knight's best 20 years and said that IU's coach should be doing so...

72 through 94. Not 94 specifically. Although 94 was 21-9, third in conference and sweet sixteen. Not too bad at all. And yes. Average 2 wins.

We were really, really good for about 25 years.

maybe not fully fair. Other teams are doing this now. Duke, Kansas, Kentucky, MSU.

We seem to have the ability and funds to give it a go. Why not us?

There are also a very select few elite coaches. Surely you don't think I'm arguing Crean to be a better coach than K, Self, Cal (w/ recruiting) and Izzo?

Who should we go for? I feel like this is where the argument always goes...the only one among those is Pitino, and IU didn't want him when he wanted IU. Which, ironically, you can put on Bobby Knight and the admin.

We need to try somebody else. We need to get rid of Crean and try somebody new and see if they are the one to bring us back since it's obviously not Crean.

Bring us back to Bobby Knight's best 20 years? I guess I have a little more respect for Knights coaching ability

I don't have that answer. I'm not sure Crean can't get there too be honest. Kansas knows how to do it. Larry Brown-----Roy Williams-------Bill Self. (Some UK style stuff going on though).

Brad Stevens is the pipe dream. I think Billly Donovan could get those results. I think Tony Bennett is working miracles.

Crean has had 3/5 seasons pretty darn good. Iron out some consistency. Get a little better with roster management. Keep improving in game management. He had enough success, he has earned more time. Just worried he can't get over this hump.

Hoping he can.
