TOM CREAN FIRED

Recommended Posts

It's interesting because if Indiana somehow manages off to win the b1g this year, it will mean Crean has won 2 b1g titles in 4 years. Not sure of what other b1g coaches have accomplished that but there can't be many.

Off the top of my head just active coaches I know Izzo has done it. Probably multiple times. Matta has done it multiple times. Beilein has also done.

So three of the other 11 that could have done it.

Yeah MSU won/shared 3 of 4 from 09-12. OSU won/shared 3 in a row from 10-12 and back-to-back 06-07. Michigan in 12 and 14. I think that point is made lol.

Fred Glass would still have confidence in him.

It would boost my confidence level as well. I know it's easy and certainly trendy to hate (jokingly or otherwise) on Crean but he is slowly showing signs of improvement. Why it has taken so long is beside the point.

He has improved. But it won't change my opinion on whether he should stay or not.

I will guess this is the general mindset.

Basically. Next year I don't see us being all that great. And people will try giving him a pass because our guards weren't very good. Which will exactly be the case. Our guards won't be that good next year. We'll be like Gonzaga this year.

Watched this today. I was in third grade when he got fired. I knew what IU basketball was all about but obviously I didn't have an adult mind.

Wonder if there were be a massive celebration on campus if Crean got fired? I'd partake

If there was I would probably look down on our students more than I already do. They really haven't fulfilled their role as students at the games unless it is a "name" opponent. That said, if he were to win a 2nd B1G in 4 years (in a year we were expected middle of the pack by most every prognosticators) and students celebrated? Look at our last 25 years. The grass isn't necessarily greener on the other side.

We're we picked in the middle of the pack? I thought we were generally picked in the upper quartile.

I've been thinking about this recently.  How would I feel if he were to win a second outright B1G regular season championship in four years?  That hasn't been done for awhile but would put him in company with Izzo, Matta, and Bo (I think).

With the 2 years in between, what were they 7th and 9th, not a lot of consistency. Which is what I desire.

2013-2014 (T8th)

2014-2015 (T7th)

Yeah, that's what has me thinking.  No doubt 2 outright B1G championships would be spectacular, even with the unbalanced conference schedule but the down years shouldn't be that low.  I guess actually winning a second outright title needs to come first before there is more thought put into it.  It's nice to be in contention though.

14-4, 7-11 then 9-9. They're 11-3 right now. But the seasons in between aren't acceptable. The 7-11 should have been 11-7. Last year was just as much of an embarrassment. Next year... if Crean is still around... just going to give him a pass? Because our guards won't be that good next year? Because we won't have depth down low? No depth at the 3? So we should just expect a good season or two and then 2 or 3 down years... that is what we're going to get with Crean. Can't build a consistency with his teams.

I definitely agree the lows shouldn't be that low. The first year after the B1G title ok. We lost Oladipo and Zeller. Zeller was definitely expected. Oladipo was not. Last year should have never happened. At worst in either year is a top 5 finish. He is still here with a good shot at atleast a split. Let's see where the year ends. But I agree we need consistency.
