You don't want to be the man that follows a legend, you want to be the man that follows the man that followed a legend.

In Indiana's case it's the man that followed the man that followed the interim that followed the man that followed the man that followed a legend.  And now I'm depressed.

So by not following a legend, you're saying that those programs are not going to get the pick of the litter? That's insane.

I'm sure they'll get high quality coaches, those administrations seem to treat those programs like the blue bloods they are.  That's something IU needs to start doing.

The only thing those programs have over IU is recent success, that's it.  With a coach like Donovan that field gets evened pretty quickly with IU's resources.

No I just mean that if I'm a coach thinking about leaving this doesn't change my mind at all

I get that, but I look at it as keeping Westbrook is the biggest thing here. If they keep making moves to build around him, it makes him more likely to stay around. This is a smaller level deal, but Gibson and Mcdermott are definitely going to help them. They aren't abandoning Westbrook.

Now, if Donovan doesn't like coaching a Westbrook-led team, then yeah this whole point is moot, but no one knows if that's the case or not.

Just a heads up...OKC is about to get better.

@ShamsCharania

Sources: OKC and Chicago are nearing agreement on a trade to send package centered on Cameron Payne for Doug McDermott and Taj Gibson.

Won't make a difference. Doesn't change their situation much, if at all IMO. Certainly not close to the situation Donovan anticipated when taking the job.

I'm not saying I wouldn't love him to take over. I think BD would be a great fit, but I think we could have a better long term option out there.

Not trying to be a Debbie Downer or Negative Nancy...I'm just being a realist. Kids being recruited have never seen IU go past the Sweet 16. They've seen UK, Duke, UNC, UofL win titles.

By "struggle" I mean we would probably miss March again next year. With or without Billy.

I don't understand you're thinking at all. IU isn't a stepping stone school. A coach isn't going to come to IU to try to make some deep runs and then leave. If we were lucky enough to get Donovan, maybe we struggle next season, but after that I see I very quick turnaround. Not saying championships by any means right away, but Billy Donovan at IU is going to be a recruiting draw in itself. He'll be able to get some good enough talent to make the tourney the following year and after that I see it continually being easier to recruit. He will bring consistency that we have long been waiting for, once IU is nationally consistent and contending again there's no reason to jump ship, that just doesn't make
Any sense.

Still think He is a long shot, but if it were to happen it would not be a short term fix.
