Purdue is only one on that list of 4 teams that I feel is almost impossible.

I'm confident 3 of the 4 we could win. I've watched Minny a lot this year and I want to impressed. Plus little pitino is one of the few coaches i would feel alright with crean coaching against him. Minny has been good but has major flaws. Sound familiar.

Ya, goes along with what I posted in the Fire Crean thread...

Over the last 4 seasons, we're 36-29 in the BiG with three finishes of seventh or worse over last four seasons – including this one not yet concluded.  I decided to extrapolate on that further. Since 2012 we're 61-41 in conference. Other than the 2 BiG championships CTC has won(remove 2013 and 2016) we're 32-34. Under .500 in conference for 2012, 14, 15, and this year. More often than not in the last 6 years, we've been under .500 in conference.

 

I think I posted this before the PU game too, so add another to the loss columns.

Old Friend's post caught me by surprise.  I didn't realize our record against the KenPom top 100 was as weak as it is.  Tend to remember the big wins and not all of the losses.   No wonder we schedule so many cupcakes.  Many thanks to Old Friend for this post.

The one statistic that has always pissed me off is this: from the 2009 through 2014 recruiting classes (giving Crean a pass on 2008 because he filled that last minute), 29 players committed to play for Crean. Of those 29 commits, 13 have (/will) finished their college career with IU (assuming Hartman and Priller do not transfer). Less than half of the kids he recruits stay at Indiana, and even fewer last four seasons with the Hoosiers when factoring in early NBA departures. Between the 2010 and 2013 classes (four recruiting classes), three of the 17 commits (Sheehey,Yogi, and Hartman) were four year players.

Seeing these stats just really puts it in perspective.  Our conference finishes from 2011-present:

2011: 11th
2012: 5th
2013: 1st
2014: T8th
2015: 7th
2016: 1st
2017: 10th (proj)

Not to mention a pattern of 2 lowly finishes for every conference title.  Maybe Crean is more consistent than we give him credit for?  Just need to wait 3 yrs between good teams haha.

At least the year we finished 5th we were only 2 games back of 1st. I would much rather finish 5th 2 games back instead of tied for 2nd 6 games back like iu did 1998-1999. Definitely not defending crean just I don't look at where a team finishes but rather how many games back from 1st did they finish

Correct.   And I've said that for a couple of years.   When Bob Knight was let go, people said the game had passed him by.  Time to go.   Blah, blah.  With his worst teams.  When he had truly quit caring about recruiting.  From 1994 until he was fired in 2000, he STILL finished higher than 4th four times.   Crean's done it twice in his career; and we're supposed to think that's okay??   

I got into it a couple of years ago with one of the holier than thou folks on the Scout site about Bo Ryan and Wisconsin.  His argument was we don't want to be Wisconsin, they never win titles.  I said then and I'll say NOW that if Indiana is in the conversation every year, our fans will be happy, and we'll do just fine compared to Wisconsin because we'll always (with the right coach) be able to attract better talent.   Bo Ryan never finished BELOW 4th in the Big Ten.  Crean is 4-18 vs. Wisconsin.   Are we Indiana or...not?   Fred?  Mr. McRobbie?
