Old Friend

Dinner with an opponent

Recommended Posts

I don't think it's that you might disagree with him on some things, but it's the way you disagree with him when he makes a post.  It does seem that you are waiting to pounce on his posts sometimes.

No, players don't gameplan, but the coach does, and the players sit in on those film sessions when the coach tells them how they are going to defend or attack an opponent.

I don't know if you have an axe to grind with Old Friend, but as a middleman, it sure seems that way.

Dude he started a thread. I responded to the thread. My god. How does someone disagree with someone on a site like this without hurting their feelings? This is insane.

It's not that you disagree, it's the way you go about it with him was all I'm saying.

That is fair enough. Like most people I can honestly say I won't change for one person. It isn't a personal thing though. I am here to discuss with people this great University and the game I love. It is not good now and probably won't be until we make a change. That much I think most of us agree on. Onwards and upwards.

I was with the guy for an hour or more.   Expand a little....this is the Cliff's Notes version.  I know one guy doesn't get it.  You're smarter than that.   If you want the verbatim, PM me and I'll do what I can.  Let's just say this kid thought Indiana was a pretty simple team to game plan for and to beat.  He was worried about IU's talent, but had no worries at all about what they would do or how they would play.   That's the point....not some snapshot of what I posted.

I didn't mean to come off as an ass; your post is completely interesting, but not what I'd expect other teams to identify as our primary weaknesses.

It's funny, the part of the current Indiana offense that drives me crazy is not really what your source cited.

What drives me crazy is that we stand around or aimlessly weave for the first 10 seconds of the shot clock on every half-court possession and don't start the offense running until there's 15 seconds left. In fact, I think that the first 8 to 10 seconds of Indiana offense are incredibly, extraordinarily, frustratingly easy to guard!

Yep. This is why we are terrible against teams like Wisconsin. You can't let a good defensive team only have to play defense for 10-12 seconds at their pace. I guarantee Gard is saying thank you every time.

I would be interested to know if we go to the weave quickly or only if we don't have a clear quick transition bucket. To me it seems we look for the quickie and if that is not there then it seems we get into the weave. I agree with you though about the wasted time in that thing.

Used to get so mad that we waste quick bigs like Cody who could have used that time to make the D try to keep him from getting open in the post.

We go for transition bucket: Good.
If no transition bucket we go to wasting ten seconds without running an offense.
BAD.

The game of basketball is not complicated. The coach that puts his players in the best position is going to succeed far more than not. The problem with Crean is he knows one way and one way only. If that doesn't work he hasn't shown the ability to adjust.

Something that continues to run through my head watching IU in the Crean era..

How many games has IU won because Crean made adjustments or had a stellar game plan?

How many games have we lost because Crean failed to adjust or his game plan was trash?
